I was just reviewing the deathguard list. I noticed it is very light on AA. How do people find it to play? Is it competitive? Also a quick question on the list. I notice a deathguard retinue cannot have dreadclaws however a deathguard mechanised company, with Rhinos by default, can? Surely that should be the other way around? Thanks, |

I believe its considered competitive if a little dry, as it has a ton of fearless units and also, as you have noticed, compulsory foot infantry formations. I believe the lack of drop pods for the deathguard retinue is intentional - you are forced to grind forward on foot, deathguard style. This is a list I've been meaning to try out. |

Oh? I had not noticed that Retinue cant use `claws, but it seems to be true. Using spaceship seemed like only viable way of moving Retinues around. |

I believe its due to the fact that they are both upgrades. You have to pay for the rhinos, and if you dont you can buy dreadclaws instead. You cant buy both as, like you said, you cant drop rhinos in drop pods. Its an either / or |

(Elyrioth @ Feb. 19 2008,10:46) QUOTE I noticed it is very light on AA. All Cult Marine lists as light on AA AFAIK. Practically they have none as the Defiler variant is quite sad to use :] Well you could buy some fighters... |

Yep, as said, it's intentional and the mechanised ones are the only ones with the capability to drop pod (in which case you can't buy the rhinos). But yes, we reach the point where attempting to stick to the "fluff" of the death guard gets us into trouble... they use infantry forces but don't deploy heavy weapons. I'm not too sure how to stay true to the foot-slogger feel of the Death Guard and make a viable Epic army... The cult defilers can always be improved if they're that non-viable... |

I'm tempted to give all Death Guard units heavy bolters and screw the 40K rules. What would you guys say? |
