So I was teaching a friend E:A this weekend and he asked me something I didn't know the answer to. Can Infantry use their CC or FF value to damage Armoured Vehicles if they only have Small Arms, and no AT or MW value? |

That's the only time you use CC/FF values... represents grenades, short range weapons, and other things not represented in the actual weapon notes. |

That was what I thought, but my opponent wasn't sure about it. He questioned how they could get a better value and take out the tank if they couldn't do it from Range. |

Think about Khorne Berzerkers, pretty useless at range, deadly against almost anything in CC, especially if there's a power fist in there somewhere. Or a Combat Squad with a plasmagun, not much cop at long range, but get close enough and shoot the side armour and it has a pretty good chance of knocking out a tank. That's what CC and FF values represent, the abstract possibility of the squad getting into a good position and making the most of what they have. |

Infantry will also be carrying things like krak grenades, melta bombs, meltaguns, etc, which are all too short-ranged and fiddly to deal with in Epic, but are why infantry can hurt tanks even if they look like they're only carrying lasguns! From a real-life perspective, tanks are pretty vulnerable to infantry if they get in close enough, especially in WWII-era battles which seem to be the primary inspiration for GW. Even small arms are pretty nasty if fired through vision slits, etc. |

Originally posted by Lord Inquisitor . . . meltaguns, etc, which are all too short-ranged and fiddly to deal with in Epic . . . If only. I'm thinking Fire Dragons, Wraithguard, Stormtroopers, Skorchas, et al. There's plenty of units that it could be argued should not have a ranged attack. |

(Heavens To Betsy @ Dec. 20 2007,13:15) QUOTE If only. I'm thinking Fire Dragons, Wraithguard, For at least these two units, it's because *all* the members of the squad are carrying the same, deadly, weapon; unlike a Marine or IG squad where only one in ten usually has a "special" weapon. |
