Which one is correct (and why), as general formation rules and scout rules are a bit ambigious. Let's have a formation with scouts and non-scouts, like Alaitoc Rangers + Falcons. 1. non-scouts must be in a single chain of units with no bigger than 5cm gaps, like this: (s = scout, F = falcon) s F F s F s 2. as long as each scout is within 20cm of some other unit and each non-scout is within 5cm of other unit, all is ok, like this: s F s F s F |

#2 is correct. Each individual unit is checked for coherency. As long as it fits the criteria with at least one other unit in its formation, it's good. |

This is a similar issue with WE and nonWE units in a formation. Both look legal to me: "Every unit in a formation must be no further than 5cm from at least one other unit in the same formation. In addition, all units must form a ?chain? without any gaps of more than 5cm." "Scout units only have to remain within 20cm of another unit from their formation, rather than 5cm as would normally be the case." Personally, I've interpreted this to mean that this overrides both the chain and the distance requirements - so indeed, scouting units can be a link in the chain, even if they're up to 20cm apart. So, yes, your second example seems okay with me - as long as the regular units are within 5cm of another unit and part of the chain (even if the links are bigger as per the scout rules). |
