Global Games made 6mm figs?
I remember the guy who got me into gaming started with Planetstorm/Legions of Steel as his first game, and his dad knew the game designer who sold minis from his house apparently.

And yes, I'd be inclined to check out 6mm skeletons myself for Necrons.
As for the reinforced armour on everything, I haven't looked at the list yet, but as long as they cost boatloads of points I can see it - after all, they have a roughly 50% chance of self repairing according to the background if shot up.

EDIT: Well, I read the list. I can understand the whole thing with Inspiring representing the anti-inspiration these units provide to the enemy, but that doesn't really make sense for the Necron Lord. The Flayed Ones represent an utterly visceral fear - the skin of what could very well be your buddy Joe who disappeared when investigating the planet you're on earlier could well be that skin. The Pariahs cause a psychological revulsion, and so that's understandable. As are the C'Tan - standing in front of entities of such a level that they measure energy by the output of multiple stars would be fairly... disgruntling, to say the least.
But the Lord? It's not really all that different looking from the rest of the 'Crons. Bigger head, I suppose, and the staff. I mean, if I managed to stay gruntled fighitng millenia old beings that looked like skeletons, I think I could still remain gruntled while fighting one with a bigger hat.

Well, Hergmir, in Wh40k Lords have access to two wonderful pieces of Wargear: Gaze of Flame and Veil of Darkness.

These have amazing effect one enemy morale...

how spooky is this?

Not being a 40k player (nor much of an epic one either), I was in GW (The Plaza) lunch time and laid my eyes on the Necron 40k models for the first time! I was blown away by them, and almost picked up Codex Necron just for the read. The 40k models are fantasic and realy got my imagination going.

I come home and find a Necron list has been uploaded!

Now to arms...

I have a few Chaos andriods in my bits box, which if I keep to three a stand will give me a few warrior stands, but what can I do for other models? I've found an old Borg Cube model which would do as a monolith with a coat of paint.

I have a load of Warhammer skeletons, could one of these be used as a Necron lord, or would it be just too big?

Way too big - Warmaster skeletons, although too organic, would work much better, although they are still a few mm too large. Painting them in metallic colours would help.

Warmaster skeletons, with a bit of conversion, would I feel yield passable wraiths, at least from my memory of the size of the models. Make it so they're on one leg and then add some long scythey things to the arms.

A good idea.  :D

I have that M/M Borg Cube ... we use it as a terrain bit.  Plus I do have 8 or so stands of Chaos Androids (can you say T2 ! :;): ) ... interesting concepts, Furgie ! ???

I highly recommend the Necron Codex just for the background. IMO it has some of the best background of any WH40K codex (along side with the demon hunter codex, these 2 are by far my favorites in terms of background). The art work also seems alot better in the last few codexs.

Maybe FW will do a Necron army for Epic since the initial release for them is still a few years away.  Maybe even some  Dark Eldar.

Validation! Huzzah!
Someone else recommended using Eldar antigrav platforms with the weapn removed and a suitable upper torso placed on top for destroyers, but I think everyone's pretty much got those covered.

For the pylon, use one of the hull crescents from the smaller Necron escorts (Dirge I believe?) and prop it on it's side, make some kind of stand and add in a crystal in the hollow of the crescent maybe? Main reason I'm putting out ideas is because I myself will never get around to them.

For a pylon I've been playing with half a key-ring, mounted on a two-pence piece (for the moment) and I nicked some stick on jewels from my daughter's Barbie nail set...

Not quite FW standard, but with a lick of paint....
