I've been looking through the Epic UK website at the tournament lists people have used and finally realised why it seemed 'odd' - the lists don't look identical. Sure there are things that feature in most (Thunderhawks, Terminators and Warhounds), but even that rule is occasionally broken. I found this quite reassuring as it seemed to suggest that most things I build will be useful at some point.
Yup, that's one of the best things you can say about Epic, it's that for all we might engage in detailed debates about the merits of particular units, Epic has a tighter level of balance than any other GW tabletop wargame...
...there are no instant win army list builds in Epic that will let you turn off your brain and just roll dice until you take home some silverware!

I've also been looking anxiously at the Forgeworld website (waiting for those pesky Warhounds to return) and have begun to consider the Reaver model they've got. Do people use this in standard lists with the alternate weapons loadout?
In friendly games, sure.
In tournaments you'll have to take the standard configuration from the rulebook though, and "counts as" your arm weapons to be turbolasers.
Also, try giving FW a ring, rumour has it they have some Warhounds in stock if you call them.

Is the points cost different? I've noticed I can use it in the rather enjoyable looking Titan Legion list but (low model count aside) I'm not sure that's the best army to learn with!
Lots of people seem happy using the Titan Legion army list's points cost for different configurations of Titan; That particular one on the FW website works out at 575pts, IIRC.
As the chap who was asked by the NetEA rules comittee to write rules for the Titan Legions, one of my projects I want to get done is to codify some rules for using Allied Titans with variant weapon fits.
