Hi!
How do you guys recommend using CAV arms and parts for Epic? |
I'm fuzzy on how large the CAV robots are, I think they are slightly larger than BT ones, is that correct?
[Editor note: Yes, they are a little bigger. They're scaled at 10mm.]
I'd use the arms as Knight weapons to perhaps formulate and create more versatile Knight units. If they are larger perhaps they would look more appropriate on Warhounds or Reavers, maybe even Warlords if they are big enough.
I think their arms look great and would look very well in any of the above functions.

I'm with Primarch...
They would be good for Titan conversions if I have my scales correct. ? One Titan really lacking variants is the Warhound. With only the two weapon arms available, they would be really good recipients for some modified arms.

As probably many have you have already figured out, a great part of the fun for me of playing and modelling Epic is making conversions and finding/converting proxies for models that don't yet exist.
Having run a game with Tyranids at CONQUEST (and still needing to finish writing the battle report), I spent a tremendous amount of time building and painting Tyranids, which led me to thinking about Tyranid proxies/conversions...
Please feel free to comment or add to the ideas:
--------------------------------
Expectorator - (a large Biovore) - I like the old Biovore model. It would be really easy to remove the front "spindly" legs and add in other arms (I was thinking of Dactylis arms). It is a smaller model and would look good as a: (a large Biovore). - Karl Woodrow used a new Biovore model to make a Tyranid Bio-Titan that looks great: Dropship 40k EPIC: Bio-Titan conversion - I like the new Biovore, but the model is a tad big to be just a: (a large Biovore). I prefer the smaller older Biovore model.
Hydraphant - (basically a ?neutered? version of the Dominatrix) - This one puzzles me. why would Tyranids even need a "neutered version of the Dominatrix?" - I always thought that they reproduced asexually even though they borrowed the "queen" idea from the insect world. I guess I must be wrong. - I have little idea how to convert a Hydraphant. - Maybe use the Dominatrix body without the little "controller" guy in his cradle. Model a good Tyranid lump in the back where Mr. Cradle used to be.
Mycetic Spores - I like the old iea of adding a little "slime" to walnut shells. - Another neat idea is to use old "spore mines" left over from the Biovore purchases to use as Mycetic Spore markers. I don't know if this is a good idea, but I'm throwing it out for everyone's perusal.
Ravener - This is the model that got me thinking about Nid conversions. It's so easy to do. Simply mount some Ripper Swarm models individually on small coins or disks. I mounted some old plastic Ripper Swarm guys on some US pennies and am VERY pleased with the results. - Voila! - Instant Ravener models!
Synapse Node - This is almost like a terrain feature, based on the spore chimney?s made by Forge World. It can?t move or attack after is appeared, by can act as a synapse creature for a swarm, and can be used to spawn more Tyranid creatures. - Good Idea for Tyranid Node Model - Originally posted by Markconz: Just an idea about what to use for these... Three Devourer guns from the 40k Gaunts box would make a good looking Spore Chimney. Few 40k Tyranid players use the Devourers so they would be easy to pick up cheap. 18 in a box = 6 Hive Nodes. |
Vituperator - (A larger version of the Harridan) - I have been planning to build some unique conversions of the Harridan since the Tyranids came out for SM-TL, but I guess when I build them they'll become Vituperators now! - One of the ideas is to use the Dominatrix head on the Harridan. It has a long gangly look that would be fun to play with. - The old 28mm Gargoyle wings and stinger bottoms would also be good fodder for conversions. - I've also thought about adding on a good arm or two (such as the ever popular Dactylis arms!). - There are other head swaps that I've considered as well such as using the original Ripper Swarm heads.

There's been some discussion of making Salamanders on another thread:
IG Salamanders: A new essential?
Essentially there are three options right now:
1. No conversion i.e. buy the FW ones or wait for the E-A minis to be released.
2. Little conversion i.e. the Jombo and Mates route: Use a Bombard base and add Ork gunners and whatnot.
3. A lot of conversion AKA the Tuffskull (TS) method in which the Salamander superstructre is built up with plasticard and other materials. TS has used old Eldar dreadnought weapons for the Salamander guns as well.

All it is, is an Armored Command Vehicle. ?I have the Epic F/W models. ?In theory a Rhino could be used in the same role. ?Tony C. must have run across some pics of German WWII command vehicles and came up with the "neat" but unnecessary model. ?He's so transparent and redundant ... ? ? ?

Hi!
My thoughts exactly, Legion4. Hopefully some of that will trickle down to armies that really need it.

I took a look at the site (monday knight) mentioned in the BFG section. I think this would make a nice TAU dropship.
http://www.mondayknight.com/IWM-btech-dropship.htm
Of course, it would have to be re-named Orca or some other marine thingy, but what do you think about the model? ?

Hi!
Thats not a bad model, you're right it does look "tau-ish". Very appropriate for a dropship.

Hmm.. personally I don't think this quite has the Tau feel to it; a bit 'fat' if you know what I mean.. although it is still a nice model!

It does need a diet stormseer!
I'm trying to find something similar I saw once, but I can remember the manufacturer.

Does anyone have any good ideas for making the support weapons for PDF / Siege units?

Now I know that the Ork list is still undergoing alterations, but thought I'd ask these questions anyway. Especially as they may have already been asked over at the vault and answered. I dont know as I dont visit anymore.
Basically, I'm beginning to put together some Ork stuff and playing around with the army list.
What I noticed, I found odd. A couple of the costs of Ork stuff is a bit random.
Say, for instance, the warband. 250pts for 2 Nobz, 6 boyz and 2 grotz.
Now, using the prices for extras you get for 200pts, 2 Nobz 6 boyz and 4 grotz. 2 extra grotz for a saving of 50pts
Now I do realise that the cost for big and uge mobs reduces this. So in the case of the the warband its not a biggy.
However, it doesn't work on the Stormboyz.
Stormboyz-6 stands=200pts Extra Stormboys-8 stands = 200pts
For this entry there is no point in increasing the mob size, as you'd get less storm boyz than buying a load of extras.
Now I realise you save points for increasing mob sizes in most entries. Stomps etc. Though this is to reward you for not taking the minimum of each choice.
Where are me warbosses? And 50pts for an oddboy? I find that a bit high.
So, in essence, any news on what's changing?

Don't worry, its not just you the Ork army list in the vault has a lot of weird stats\points costs. Jervis decided to change a bunch of things at the last minute that messed things up. Fortunately he listend when enough people complained, and several improvments will be in the final version of the list which should go up this week.
Heres the stuff I know Jervis posted on the official E:A forums:
ORK WARBANDS
Cost goes to 200/350/500
Battlewagon cost increases to 35 points each
Number of extra Nobz is limited to 'up to 2' (but remember this multiplies up for big and 'uge formations), cost becomes 35 pts each, but lose the free boy.
Stompas cost increases to 75 points.
STORMBOYZ
Cost changes to 175/na/na and Battlewagons are removed from extras.
KOS
Basic formation becomes eight units, cost becomes 200/350/500
BB (The big change!)
Boyz and Nobz removed from extras column.
possibly bring back options for bikes\buggies\skorchas upgrades.
STOMPAMOB
Extra Stompas cost +75 points each
BIG GUNZ
Cost changes to 150/225/300
Extra Orks limited to 'up to two'.
Extra Nobz limited to 'up to one', cost becomes +35 points, lose free boy.
LANDA
Cost becomes 200/na/na
Allow dreads + killa kans in landas.
All of the above info is in this thread http://forums.specialist-games.com/epic40k....hpage=1
