Hello! :)

So, I'm in France, which means I can get started making terrain for our Wargaming facilities, huzzah! ?Here I'll detail Epic and 6mm sci-fi specific pieces I shall be making. ? I wanted to start by making the actual boards (I'm making 12 for our planned start up which will be in September), but so far I've found it difficult to get hold of any which are the right size; I need 6 foot by 4 foot, but the nearest I've found is one DIY place which sells them at 8 foot by 3 foot ????

Anyway, before I show what I have been doing, here's a shot of my terrain making loot, accumulated over 18 months of steady hoarding and eBay splurging :D

Lots of 40k Cities of Death stuff, platformer stuff for Urban War, trees, jungle plants, various junk (essentailterrain making ingredient!); but you've probably spotted the Epic 40k boxes, these have got plastic ruined buildings & sprues for Epic. ?The shoe box on top contains loads of the plastic & cardboard Epic buildings (my thanks again to Otterman for his help in replacing my collection of these which got stolen!).

Anyway, probably because Epic has become my first love in terms of model making, I couldn't wiat to get started on Epic terrain. ?I've been accumulating some CoD pieces, some Necromunda plastic bulkheads, and some of the Epic ruin pieces - with these I will make a terrain centre-piece, an Imperial Governer's Palace/Fortress. ?I started getting stuff together for this on Friday night, but after spending two hours cutting Epic Ruins & Necro Bulkheads to shape I decided I was probably getting ahead of myself - I need to get a good selection of 'generic' terrain before I move on to the big stuff.

So I've been starting to put together some ruins:

THis shot shows the general morass of Epic Ruins, CoD stuff and bulkheads. ?I've also been cutting squares from foamboard upon which I'll be mounting the ruins & buildings - this is pretty tedious & time consuming when it's being done in the quantity I'm going to be making! ?After taking this picture I started sticking ruins to some bases, I'll post some pics of my work later this week.

In the meantime I thought I would tantalise everyone with promises of forthcoming projects as part of this whole Epic Terrain marathon:

- lots of woods
- lots of jungles
- lots of ruins (ha!)
- city blocks
- defensive structures
- Industrial/Factory type stuff
- and some set pieces: the Governer's Palace, a Command Bunker, a Space Port, an Ad Mech Titan Factory, amongst other things.

So despite the paucity of pictures in this first post, I hope that this thread will provide great entertainment and inspiration for other Epic model makers. :)

Cool.  I am trying to make up a stash of Epic Terrain myself at the moment with hopes of starting off a series of tournaments and gaming events for Epic.  As such, it will be really interesting to see how your stuff turns out to get a bit of inspiration.

Thanks everyone! :)

@ Hotwire, no rush for the sprues, whenever you're ready!

@ Mark_Logue, I've taken a lot of inspiration from the very talented and imaginitive members on here who have posted their own terrain - such as WMN, L-4, Chroma and Kotrin.  I have to acknowledge a debt of gratitude for their inspiration of my works!  If what I do can inspire other members here, then that's great :D

Anyway, we've now got our Broadband internet connection sorted (huzzah!), so here's an update, later than I planned.  I've continued with the Epic Ruins:

I've already hit a bit of a problem, in that the foam-board I'm using to base them on warps when I apply the sand - I'm going to seek out some thin plastic or wood board to glue them on to.  I've made a few more since this, I'm up to 11/12 ruins - then I'll make some ruined-industrial pieces, which could work for Epic or any 6mm sci-fi game.

In other news, I've sorted the board issue for the timebeing: I've found a DIY store which supplies boards in 8 foot by 4 foot.  I've made a start on one this week, cutting the additional length off, then gluing polystyrene to it.  I put some craters in to the foam, then covered it in sand.  Tonight I'll start painting it.

I hope to get that finished by Monday evening, then I'll do another.  This will just be a generic grass-land type board, but with the application of appropriate pieces (woods, hills, jungle stuff, ruins) it should fit any genre and scale.

More pics in a couple of days time, thanks for looking!

Hi Firestorm,

Looks great!

I base my stuctures on plasticard with thin steel sheeting (like used for miniatures bases) underneath so they store magnetically and don't warp.

If you haven't already disassembled the warped pieces, you can try brushing some water or really thinned out PVA to the reverse side.  When it dries it pulls the board flat again.  I had the same problem with a forest stand I did a while back and it straightened things out nicely.

Ahh, thanks very much, Sgt Crunch! :) ?I will give that a try. ?Someone one on Warseer suggested painting the otherside, I'll give both a go and see which works best...

@ Vanvlak, no that is me - and not one of The Proclaimers, as I have to keep reminding myself whenever I look in the mirror :p

Anyhoo, I've painted the board (last night) and as of today it still hadn't totally dried - tomorrow (assuming it has!) I'll dry brush it, add some static grass... and it'll be done! ?Then I've another 11 to do! :p

PS - the other 'brown shapes' will be the bases of forests for 15mm +++ scales. ?I've put some sand on some for 10mm down today, I'll make a start painting them tomorrow...
