I am thinking about seriously starting on my TerrainMaker stuff from GHQ (been in the box for about 2 years now ) and someone has pointed out to me the problem of how to store the things. Any of you have a nifty way of putting terrain with some detail up without it being damaged? It has to be stored somewhere, my gaming table gets used for other stuff, as well as my Necro games when they happen. And my shelf space is, well, nil. Any opinions, statements, rants, sarcastic comments?  ib |

Plastic storage boxes. Get them barely tall enough to fit the height of the pieces so you can stack the boxes. I find 6-inches deep is plenty for most Epic terrain. Of course, you'll still need some basic level of floor space or shelf space on which to stack them. ============== Incidentally, I recently came up with a way to pack my aircraft that I am quite proud of: Get sleeves of the foam pipe insulation of the proper diameter. Cut it to length so it fits over the aircraft and stand. It's cheap and you can basically just pile them into a storage box without worry. I had stopped using flying stands at all until I thought of that. Between the weight of metal models and the peg holes being seemingly random you have to glue the aircraft to the stand to expect them to stay on. There was no easy way to put them on the stands just for the game and packing them fully mounted was always a hassle. They were odd-sized for packing in small compartments and difficult to pad if packing several in a larger container. With the foam sleeves I can just toss them in a box and not worry about it. |

I have a friend who built several hundred TerrainMaker parts. He used large plastic totes (the kind you can pick up anywhere: Rubbermaid, etc.) with cardboard inserts. He made a grid pattern out the cardboard to make vertical cells somewhat taller than the highest hex + trees. The cells were interlocked like you see inside a box of wine bottles. Then he laid a sheet of cardboard on top of the cells in order to form the next layer. Because of the modular heights, the flat and low slope hexes could be stacked within cells. It seemed to work well for him, and served him with at least three moves, one of them intercontinental (Victoria, Canada to Frankfurt, Germany) where they were shipped separate from his person. The storage took him quite a bit of work, but still only accounted for about 5% of the total work making hexes + storage system. ?  ? |

Hmmm...looks like I'll be adding a few storage tubs to the list of things I need to purchase... {sigh} And the list keeps getting longer and longer and longer.... ib |

I vote for the Clear Plastic Storage Boxes. That way they can stack and you can see inside when looking for things. I would also follow Maksim's idea of marking the boxes with scale and type. 6mm buildings or 15mm farms. Things like that. dafrca |
