Hi TacCom,

New members so thought I should post something as an intro as I get back into the hobby properly after essentially a 20 year break.

Having finally moved into our house I have space to take the epic hordes out of storage again, but needed a custom mat to fit my new games room table (full sized table tennis table to keep the boss happy) at 9ft by 5ft.

Ended up creating a custom city picture file (292mb) patched together from various online sources that Deepcut studios custom printed for me in the full 9ft by 5ft of city glory.

So happy with how it came out, am now busy making lots of the dropzone commander buildings as per the advice I found on here to fill it out!

If anyone likes I can share the original picture file, or method of creating to make your own custom city maps.

This is the file - one picture in 292mb size (It needed to be that big to print at 150dpi for deepcuts requirements)

Keep in mind thats exactly 9ft by 5ft.
If you printed it in a smaller size then it would shrink the roads to a too small scale, so if you want a smaller version then crop appropriately!

Brilliant, this is just what I've been looking for.

A tutorial on how to do this would also be great as I want wasteland/rural/alien landscapes as well. My 6'x4' attempt went to over 1GB.

I sourced some city style pictures high res from

Talked to deepcut studios who told me I needed to keep the resolution at 150dpi for a good printing result.

Edited a whole bunch of the files together using PAINT.NET
Its a free program and is easy to use and has a button 'canvas size' which will show you actual print size while letting you set minimum DPI so you dont mess it up.

After that its just the work of cutting and setting the images to match (and remembering to not advantage one side to much!)
Should work for any style you want if you can find enough high res images.
Keep in mind the size of any features you have compared to epic scale.
For me it was keeping the roads to the right size without getting them to small. You can grid the pictures on PAINT.NET to see exact measurements and then get the tape measure out at home with handy landraider or whatever to see if seems right.

Then uploaded to dropbox since its a big file and send off to your choosen printer for production.

Happy enough with the result Im going back to do some 40k sized ones as well after I finish trying to get a necron and tau epic army.

Very cool,

As one of the other members said, Maybe get some pics of troops and some buildings on it ;)
