Adam Savage Demonstrates Miniature Spaceship Paneling

Adam shows how to he makes detailed spaceship panel using the techniques he employed as a professional practical effects modelmaker for science fiction films at Industrial Light and Magic. Scratch-building a miniature out of styrene is one of the most satisfying modelmaking processes. Best is the way Adam delights in the build itself and the excitement of the project.

Another Adam Savage vid where he's doing a complete build along the lines as he would back in his days at ILM as model maker.

Really fun

Interviews with highly detailed behind the scenes shots of the amazing model work performed for Aliens. When your miniatures take up an entire sound stage, it's a bigature!

I loved the Evergreen Styrene name drop in the panel making video. Every time I go into a Hobby Town USA (or any other hobby shop that happens to have some displayed) I always buy 3 or 4 random packs of Evergreen strip styrene.

I have even gotten away from using filler putty, and have started mixing styrene shavings with the modeling glue to for a paste to fill gaps (in plastic kits).

Back on topic:
Does anyone have any detail shots of the Valley Forge from Silent Running? The only ones that I've seen online are about midway down this page:

I'd recommend Valejo plastic putty. It comes it a what's like small toothpaste like squeeze tube and with a long nozzle so you can precisely squeeze it into gaps and then a quick wipe with finger and/or tissue and it's done. Ten times quicker and easier than my old method of mixing up two part green stuff putty for gaps.
