Post subject:  Siege!

This will be an occasionally-updated thread for my scenery preparations for the Siege of Exeter in December...

First up is a Promethium Refinery made from some plastic sort of hemispheres, cut up bases and assorted bits. It's had a bunch of weathering added since this photo was taken.

Next, walls. As a substantial amount of fortifications will be needed for the siege games, I've been looking at assorted alternatives to boost what's being borrowed from other people. As the club I belong to has a big bunch of 28mm Warmill barricades, inspiration struck!

First, scale shots with Ye Olde Nurgle Beaky Marine showing a long straight section and a short angled section.

So far so good, but it's very definitely 28mm scale rather than Epic scale. However with a bit of lateral thinking and taking advantage of the overscale nature of architecture in the 40k universe, what if we add a big walkway and turn the top of the barricade into a parapet?

Looks good to me. :) The walkway is 25mm wide to allow a wide variety of basing styles and even small vehicles. It's made from 3mm foamed PVC so is pretty robust and just sits on top of the existing terrain pieces so that they can be removed for 28mm gaming. Painting-wise the walkways will get a black undercoat and then some uneven overspray of blue and grey spraycans so that they look vaguely similar to the existing paint on the MDF terrain.

Now some more scale shots:

And the straight & angled sections butted up together:

The finishing touch in terms of modelling - access stairways. I can't remember who it was who mentioned this, but big cable ties make great stairways.

Once these two test pieces are painted up I'll start mass-producing them to go with the rest of the barricade sections - I think we've got four straights and ten or so angled pieces.

Looking good! Maybe cover up the open areas on the back to make it look more solid? I think that would help complete the transformation and make it look more in-scale.

Nice work!

Just realised I posted a bunch of photos in the wrong thread...

Due to little things like holidays (and coming 9th out of 98 at an international Infinity tournament, woo hoo!) there's not been much activity here.

However this weekend was Blast-tastic in Bristol where I picked up some landing pads, bunkers and gun platforms from Brigade Models:

And some laser-fencing and a building from Angel Barracks:

All of this will be painted up for use in the Siege of Exeter: viewtopic.php?f=88&t=29651

Now for some existing stuff. Here's one of the Clockwork Goblin 15mm shield turrets on a random resin building I found when clearing out an old box, one may also end up on one of the BM bunkers:

And finally a bunch of very simple pillboxes made from bottle tops:

I love your plague tower with the bell.

Very nice terrain too. Nice futuristic city/fortifications look to em.

Ta! I've got a bunch of the new purchases painted up and hope to photograph and post them here tomorrow. There's also a photo of the painted ramparts somewhere but I can't find it at the moment. :(
