Hi all

Been a good year or two since I have been on and done any epic. since im starting to get back to normal here and have got the itch I am going to rebuild my battlefield.

basic plan is to have 8 x 50cm x 50cm squares made from an mdf board with timber sides, this will be filled with close cell foam sheets.

I also have a number of desert buildings from leven and brigade which im thinking of using.

maximum height of any structure/terrain feature will be 80mm to allow for storage

im after a few ideas or inspirational pics you can all point me at to get started

so far im thinking of using plateau like terrain to give cover for movement of titans and using the desert style buildings to put together some sort of smugglers camp/military base - maybe a listening post on an uninhabited world.

was also thinking of maybe some sort of archeological dig site using the buildings for a base camp and having some ancient ruins like valley of the kings (necron) style

here's. a shot of The buildings I'm thinking of using. main concern is they won't block line of sight for titans

Hi!

The buildings are good for infantry and vehicle battles, but once titans are in the mix, they will no provide enough cover.

All depends on what types of battles they will be used for.

It's good getting to see those brigade buildings properly. I've liked the look of them for a while but been worried that they aren't big enough for cover purposes just as you were worried about. It doesn't look like they are which is a shame, but having said that I may invest in some to go along with my Battlescene Designs Ork/Desert Buildings.

Really looking forward to see how this progresses. The buried Necron pyramid or whatever is an excellent idea and one I've thought of trying. My other half bought some cheap pillars used for cake decoration some years ago and my thought was to break these close to the base and then have them poking out of the desert.

Anyway, good luck with the table.

Hello, cool ideas! But I would advice upu to make so really high hills/mountains that blocks LoS completly, even for titans. I try to always have 4 pieces like that on a table when i play. It forces some more movement and manouvering also which i really like.

Hi,

The idea was to just include the pillars on a stand alone piece of terrain that would be in addition to the normal hills / woods etc. Just adds a bit of atmosphere and tells a story of faded civilisation, long-bured (which may or may not have anything to do with the Necrons !).

done a little more today, mostly cutting polystyrene then throwing away.

two questions to anyone who may have some experience.

1 thinking of adding either rock spires or forests to give some spots that will block los for titans ( woodland over hills will give enough height) most of the terrain will be 2 - 4cm height which I think will force more maneuver of forces rather than rely on high cover. anyone played on a board like this what was your opinion

2 looking through the terrain boards and online searches tends to show epic boards that are fairly open with the exception of small clumps of high rise ruins. this does exclude some rather nice boards that are mostly burnt out cities but it seems these are the exception. most boards seem to have the usual coverage (eg 25%) of terrain with a few large bits for titans to hide behind - does this seem right

the last board I was building ended up being binned when RL got in the way and before this years back I had a board for adeptus titanicus which was 6 foot of ruined city so little experience in different volumes of terrain

any advice welcome

I try to play with 12 bigger terrain pieces. 4 big ones that block LoS and are impassable, 4 big forests (15x20cm) and then 4 ruins or builings. Also usually ihave a road.

In the future i will not make any terrain thats smaller then 15x20cm since i try to avoid fire lanes across the table as much as i can.

just waiting around for decorators caulk to dry is so irritating!!

anyone know the size of base usually used for objectves? been having a look and cant get a specific size, most look like they are based on the 60mm round titan bases

Good start! The question of objectives sizes is actually something I have been wondering about too. I suppose that if there are no rules, ideally one could add a dot of paint or something at the centre to measure from?
