Hey all,

I've stopped lurking and created an account because I'm working on a new project that I'd like to share with you - over the last few months I've been developing a series of epic-scaled "Gothic Sci-fi" resin buildings, which I think the community might be interested in. The first couple patterns have already been produced by my moldmaker, but I have more designs that I'd love to create and hopefully find a market for.

The buildings are approximately 45mm tall and 75mm square (for the medium-sized ones) and each floor is just about the same height as the familiar plastic ruins for epic. I create each design digitally, then send the files to a 3D printing company. The prints are cleaned up and then I pass them to my moldmaker, who creates a silicone mold and reproduces the parts in pressure-cast polyurethane resin.

The moldmaking and casting have been done for me by an industry professional - the illustrious Uncle Mike of Strange Aeons.

I've been hard at work preparing for the next step - I plan to launch a kickstarter campaign to fund the creation of more designs, and to help pay for the equipment I need to cast these myself (plus, Mike likes it when I pay him for more silicone).

The reason I'm posting this is that I would love to hear your feedback - your comments, questions and/or dire predictions of doom will help me make something that people will be proud to have on their tabletop.

Thanks!
-Chris

Yes, very nice designs! Though probably not feasible in Europe if they are solid casts?

I like those and would back you. But if those are solid casts you most probably would not have customers much from Europe and other distant continents

Thanks for all the positive words! Some good news for those in Europe (or anywhere else far away) - these are not solid casts! Each building consists of four resin wall pieces and roof. The corners are plastic and will be available in round or square styles. The downside is that the buildings will require a little bit of assembly, but it makes shipping far cheaper than solid resin (plus the material costs for each are much lower)

Price point is often tricky with Kickstarter since pledges often include some shipping costs, but my target retail price for the medium-sized buildings is around $14 (Canadian), with prices for the kickstarter a couple dollars per building lower. With my current math, higher-level pledges should come out to somewhere between $12-$13 (and that's with North American shipping included, too)

If you'd like to see more pictures or learn more about the project so far, check out my blog:

Thanks for the comments and suggestions, keep 'em coming!

Those are really nice and that sounds like a reasonable price. I'd be interested in buying some, bit less interested in *another* hobby related kickstarted, but i understand it might be necessary :)

I agree with the general opinion that your designs are fantastic!
Very detailed and flavourful!

Went throughout your blog and i personally like the clean and professional design and production!
The CAD design and 3D printing definitely shows :)

Also think the pricing you are aiming for is justified.
Will watch any future kickstarter with interest!

Really nice. Perhaps one day I'll be able to pick up some of these. You know... after I finish painting my backlog...

Hi!

while I think these buildings look fantastic, I also have a feeling there is something missing to make them really great.

Maybe it's some small dents in the walls, or texture, or sign of wear or something similar.

The basic design is awesome, but they don't look "real" enough to me.

don't know if this makes any sense, sorry :)

Too clean, but in the end I would take a few.
