Post subject:  Modular Epic / Exodus Wars 6mm buildings and 15mm stuff

Hello all,

Looking for a bit of insight and constructive criticism on my next hair brained scheme to take over the world.

This WIP building is modular in that the front 'tiles' (with the windows etc) can be slotted in as the end user wishes, meaning that they can place door tiles etc anywhere they wish on the building. There will be a number of variant window and door tiles, as well as different buttresses that can be attached as desired and of course ruined replacements that can slot in to create a war torn look. I've got plans for city tiles and some modular terrain boards too.

The question I would most like to ask is if this is too fiddly for 6mm terrain. Would people rather have the modular system, which requires a bit of extra fiddly stuff for the corners but gives greater control on the end look of the building, or a more closed system where the walls of a building are pre-designed to fit in a certain order and come in a long strip rather than individual tiles, eliminating anything more fiddly than slotting the walls in place?

I'd also be interested in any other ideas for terrain that you may like to see made in 6mm.

Hey tc, that looks pretty dam cool.

As an indication of 'fiddlyness', how long did the example building in your pic take to knock up?

Cheers
Daz

Personally I would prefer the modular system. The more choices i have the better.

Looks really good so far. Will there be extensions for higher Buildings maybe with walkways? Like a gothic empire state building?

Cheers Daz,

It took less than a minute as it all clips together pretty easily. Once it's in a buildable state I'll bring you one to test out if you like to say thanks for the army loan the other weekend, It'll help me out too so you can tell me what needs tweaking.

This shows the corner problem. Internal corners leave a gap where the two tiles should meet. The only solutions I can think of are to include a square rod that can fit into the corner and runs through the height of the building, or the solution shown below, which is a simple but fiddly rectangle a few mm's big that just sits in the corner.

Yep there will be different sizes of tiles so buildings can be all sorts of heights. Also they will be able to free stand and not have to be plugged in to a base, meaning you can stack them on top of each other.
Walkways I think I will make so that they clip over the 'lip' of the roof area if that makes sense, then they can be slotted on and taken off at will so as not to get in the way.

Thanks for the feedback so far!

That looks bloody marvelous! Modular is the way to go imo. That building looks reeeeally good!... better than most resin etc. so when can I expect to get these ;)

Definitely look sweeeeeeeeeeeet.

What do the separate sections look like? From the pics it looks like the walls have two different edges, would it not be better to have either the comb joint or recesses for the buttresses on both sides?

I really, really, REALLY like those :)

Doesn't look too fiddelly.

Where these to become available do you have a rough estimate on what such things would cost?

Very nice! More detail and customisability is best, don't worry about it being fiddly.

Ah, the inside corner problem. My old nemesis. Your solution is good, but don't forget those gaps left by the joints down below. It may be worth investigating a part to fill those in, either a small rectangle that fits at a 45deg angle in each gap, or a toothed rod with bits to glue on at 90deg to fill in.

Those look great regardless. Definitely on my list.

Nice indeed!

Could we get a picture of the parts on their own?
