This is a record of a work in progress. I'm working on a few small terrain pieces for my "It's All Mine" scenarios**. Tonight I've been working on building 8 mines. In short, these will replace objectives markers for the first scenario "Time is Money". **Anyone who is suffering from insomnia may be interested to know that the thread for the scenario rules can be found here; viewtopic.php?f=14&t=24279 |

Next I chopped up some matchsticks... I can recommend doing the same thing if you want to play poker but don't have any chips.

Next I glued together the matches to form "U"s, "N"s or "C"s. Depends on which way you want to read them.

Queenie's face is obscured by a thin layer of white paste. Next, I use some UHU (or is it NHN?) glue to apply my "U" or "N" section to what was once cash. I'm sure you'll agree that a vicious blow has been struck against the evil capitalist regime.

I cut some small sections of card to glue to the back of the wooden frame and to the coin. This hopefully will create an illusion of David Copperfield proportions that there is a tunnel within entrance that runs deep into the earth.

Next I just use some filler to create a rocky surrounding that the mine is cutting into. Note that no expense nor any time has been spared on researching whether this is an accurate depiction of a mine. I just hope it looks ok in the end and that people understand what it is meant to represent! I have to let the filler set so that's all for the moment...

Could be an entrance to an underground complex ... of some sort ... |

The entrance to an underground mine?... Probably not! Maybe more like an old-style outside lavatory! ![]() I had a wee look at some mine entrance images on google, think my entrance design is relatively close. I know my limitations though! I did think about building some mountainous terrain and setting these entrances into them (which would have been a bit more realistic), but it seemed an excessive task just to play my scenario. I wanted to build something relatively small and simple in the hope that others may fancy giving the scenario a go! |

Today I painted up my mines! Here's how it went (apologies in advance for the less than brilliant photgraphy)... I spraypainted the mines with the now-defunct GW Codex Grey roughcast. I love this spraypaint as not only does it speed up the work but also applies some texture to the miniature you are working on. Why they are discontinuing it is beyond me. Does anyone know where I can get something similar?

Then I painted the interior walls black. I was incredibly slapdash with the black paint here, knowing I would fix it later.

Next up was to paint the entrance beams brown. I also fixed up any problems where areas of grey had been omitted. As a footnote, I was very pleased that I had smeared a little filler over the surface of the coins upon which the structure of the mines is built. It gave the entrance floor a dusty and irregular feel. Had it not been for the Queen's ugly mug on the coins I probably wouldn't have thought to have done that.

Then last of all, on with that magic painty rinse stuff that the kind fellow in Games Workshop sold me. Here's some shots of the finished articles...

These small pieces will feature in my next battle report (expected late weekend/early next week). I'm hoping that I might get a few better shots and that everyone will get a better idea of the scale then! There will also be a few more small builds to come in this project, more to follow! Cheers! |
