Hello

I have been inspred to start work on my epic armies again after looking at some of the great work shown on the forums. I currently have a 6 x4 tabl made from kallistra boards for fantasy battle in 10mm and I am starting to make some boards to swap out for sci fi.

I want to include an urban area on the table which will measure roughly 2' x 2' and am struggling to decide if it should contain intact buildings runis or a mx of the two.

any suggestions for what looks good and also as I am trying my hand with plasticard any advice on building footprints and height.

Thanks

Welcome to the forums. I don't know much about scenary or using plasticard so I'll leave it to someone better qualified to answer that.

Just saying hi and welcome.

I recommend GameCraft for ruins:

I have ruins #1-3 and the Skyscraper. They're cheap and look good. After that there's the ruin sprues that came with E40k.

Dave- these look good but how fragile are they? They look thinner than GW E40k ruins- how well do they stand up to gaming?

Thanks

James

They're pretty sturdy. The only problem I had was that most of the windows on mine came with fillets of resin in the windows, which required careful removal, because some of the window detail is very fine.

1/8" plexi is pretty rugged. Aside from what SG points out the things smell like cat piss thanks to the laser cutting, so I'd recommend washing them...

LOL Dave- it's those small details that somehow don't get shown on theor website. Thanks & also to SG.

Apparently Magister Militum are the UK stockist but I could nt find these ruined buildings on MM website. I will try to get hold of some the next time I'm at a wargames show.

Cheers

James

What Ive done is find some partially rubbled buildings and put them in between your intact buildings and the full-on ruins. This way you can have a visually pleasing array of buildings in something that makes sense. After all, most of the rubbled buildings out there are commercial, ie factories, office buildings, etc...so put a high concentration of them on one side. Whatever you have a large collection of, non-ruined-wise, put them on the other, and then slap some in-betweeners to make the bridge...

Hope I am being clear. I suspect that I am not :)

thanks for the quick replies.

Thanks for the suggestion Kealios on concentrating the damage to one side, makes perfect sense and will link in well with the next board which was going to be a cratered no mans land, I think ill add very low ruins to the board with a few tall pieces and lots of shell holes. For this board I will try starting with intact buildings and increasing the damage from one side to the other.

Thaks for the link to Gamecraft, some real nice pieces.

for now I have made some buildings from plasticard and ruined buildings from cork tiles till I know exactly what I want to do

Thanks again

Just some ideas...

scrapped the first batch of what looked like boxes with rough holes vut in them. Just finished the first building I am happy with built out of plasticard, any tips on texturing plain plasticard? I have tried sanding on a few of the first attempts and did not like the finish. I have used plaster/fller and sand to texture 28mm buildings in the past but have no idea with 6mm scale what looks good

+1 for JR Miniatures. They make some outstanding ruins.

Welcome aboard, Garben.

If you want to texture plain plasticard, you can use white glue with a dash of fine sand (like, as fine as you can find). Only paint on dabs here and there, but the primer and subsequent paint will pick up on the bumps and give it a not-so-flat look.

Thanks for the advice, I have completed my first building, about to start work on my city and ruins. Any criticism or advice is welcome.

Awesome building. The ground looks a bit too much like the building, IMO - I think a different color or texture might help.
