I'm in the process of building a city to go on my S6 baseplates when they arrive. So far, my progress is thus: ![]() The floors are 10mm high, and each building is designed to hold up to 8 strip bases or 9 square bases on the roof: ![]() I was talking with a friend last night, and he got me to thinking: were I to cast these or similar pieces in resin, would there be an interest among forum members? Eventually I plan to do some ruined buildings for the city as well, though the floor height will prove a problem (too short for some models). Those could probably be castas wall sections with corner sections, but that's getting further down the road... |

Very nice looking. I wouldn't mind having a few. But I think I need a job first ![]() How did you make em? |

Just plasticard. .040"/1mm substructure, with strips for ornamentation. Right now I'm improving the technique and doing, erm, market research. I've not actually done any casting before, but am lead to believe that these would be simple to cast, and the cost of materials would seem to make the price competitive with similar sized buildings from major manufacturers. A casting kit is on my list of things to buy this week, along with AOTs. As for the j-word, I feel you. That's the main reason I'm looking for some side income... |

They look great for gameability! if you can add some more details to the outsides (pipes? gothic bits? look to the gw 40k buildings for inspiration) they would be a cert purchase. |

I agree they are currently a tad plain. After some thought, I'll at least add some details to break up the roofs. I'm not planning on adding any GW-specific iconography to them; FW's brass etches will do fine for that. My intent is for them to work for any 6mm Modern or Sci-Fi system. No point in hamstringing myself at the development phase. I do intend to make some that are more gothic looking, but these I'll leave as is (aside from the roofs). I want to get a handle on the limits of what is castable. Perhaps bitz packs of details might also be in order eventually, but I'm trying not to overreach myself for once. When I get a decent product from these, I'll move on to other projects. |

Let's take this in a different direction. What do you, the TacComs community, want out of any cast resin terrain you would buy? A few ground rules first: IP neutrality. This is not so much out of fear of Big Bad Grandma Wendy as it is a decision to make the buildings usable in any 6mm game/universe. I'm working in plasticard because that's what I know, and what I'm good at. Sculpted details are out for the time being; no skulls and NO pointy space elf pansy homes. While ruins are on my to do list, my ability to cut out identical windows is still developing. I can't do it with a precision that I'd feel good about distributing. Within these bounds, what features do you want to see in a range of 6mm buildings? Do you want human and funganoid structures? High rise or military/industrial? How large? Finally, what would be a fair price, pre-shipping, for a structure approximately 3" cubed? $7.50? Less? More? |

$7.50 for a 3” cube sounds great, but personally I’d rather have more buildings of a smaller size. And I think I’d most like military or industrial buildings. Residential buildings really need windows, and S6 is doing a good job with them. Bunkers, silos, factories, repair depots, other depots… things that can act as objectives would be awesome, and a good fit for a wider variety of games. Or modular forts, with big gates and towers. |

I would be interested in them as they are now, they are a good base and can easily be taken Futuristic with flat plasticard, or dark future gothic with Half round or quarter round |

Got a quick paint of the first good quality cast of the the building. ![]() Most of the larger air bubbles turned into impromptu battle damage, but hopefully in the future less will be neccessary. |

I reckon they need some sort of engraved detailing or external detailing, windows etc to make them appear 'more scifi'. Like if the chief engineer on star wars imperial star destroyers had changed masters in college and became an architect instead (you know what I mean, ancillary nurnies and greeblies). If anything it just adds visual interest, and makes them look nicer painted, is nicer to use washes or inks on. I would honestly not buy them if they are just plain, because they just look like cardstock/plasticard and I can do that if I have to on the cheap (but I'd be more inclined to purchase nicely finished models) |

I happen to agree, and this project has stalled for that reason and because I have some commission work to do that doesn't require me to model and mold an entire range of buildings before I see a cent. I need to work on detail overall, across my work. Maybe I'll find patience on the way. |

I'd certainly be interested in picking up a few buildings when do you get things to that stage. --Robert |
