I might think about opening it up a bit. the buildings are so close.

Agreed :) id never be able to reach toe back of the table as it is currently. I should have space to open it up a bit more and i may have a much wider corridor highway down the centre for the flyover motorway to fit down, once ive worked out how to build it ;D

I have to agree with rasputin here. I think the first setup was large enough to be imposing in a way few game tables manage, but allowed room for arms to maneuver. The second, while truly impressive in it's scale, is just asking for those hive towers to get knocked over midgame.

However, the concept and execution are great. That's a lot of plant pots!

That is really, really awesome.

I'm now wondering about the possibilities of doing something similar myself. If I used printed designs to cover the outside of the pots, I could even add some detail while maintaining stackability - and thus easy storage...

Last of my pots arrived from ebay, ended up spending rahter more than i intended on pots in the end, the water plant ones with all the holes are much more expensive than normal pots :P .

hope you like viaducts, i would make more but that was all the polystryene i had ???

Opened up the spacing in general so there is more room. the thinner tower tops will be stuck together so they can be easily removed from the main body chunks of tower, making ti easy to reach into the board.

And this just...I mean...?! I was just scoring some thin MDF and it literally fell apart in my hand... annoying to say the least

Hmm this is a very cool idea. I was thinking of painting/drawing some big sheets to go on the wall behind the towers with perspective altered rows of towers disappearing off into the distance, and also large base sheets that have a long perspective chasm looking down into the hive.

Free advice - cultivate (ha!) a friendship with someone who buys annuals. They'll go through mountains of these things.

Sounds beautiful. You could also do some kind of detailing inside the slatted pots using the same methods as I suggested. Even just black construction paper might be enough to provide the illusion of depth and such.

And those are lovely viaducts indeed.

Ye the towers will be fully covered on the inside with black in most cases, except where i will be doing full interior detail on a couple of them (hopefully to include a large generator room using 775 stock heatsinks, a hydroponics garden, a habitation level etc). Outside will be fully painted, have the pot edges trimmed off, new details added etc. The stacks of pots are still very much just the raw material rather than finished peices :)

loving the idea and the execution, but you'll have great fun playing on that.

Slightly tickled me when I mistook the skitarii in the zoomed out pic for traffic cones.

Looked like the reaver titan had been held up in road works whilst a contraflow was opened up
