Because our winters are long, boring and cold, I had some time to work on objectives for my Space Marines and Tau.  Collectively, they took about three months to do, but in reality, maybe about 10-15 hours apiece -- the hardest part was just finding the time outside of work and social obligations.  

I had no Plastruct or sheet styrene, just some 25mm and 30mm square bases from Fantasy to use as a core, and lots of Fix-It (which has now replaced Green Stuff as my weapon of choice).

I have modeled both sculpts after the main bases from Dawn of War and Dawn of War: Dark Crusade.  

First, the Tau base:




The Tau base is acutally three parts -- the core base, the "generator" at the top (a.k.a 40K gun/shield drone) and the tower at the back of the base.

And next, the Space Marine base:




I know the Space Marine base is a little "stubby" compared to the DoW version, but once I realized I had shorted myself, I didn't feel like going back and fixing it.  This guy is one solid piece.

Nifty, I think that you'd have run into scale issues if you'd made the marine one correctly proportioned. It might be interesting to add more of a keep above the back part of it though to give it added mass.

I really love the Tau base. In general I think the Tau DoW buildings are really neat. Could be a bit bigger though in comparison with units on your Photobucket page.

Now I am tempted to try myself on something like that. But I have never done modelling stuff and still quite alot of painting for my tau to do.

The Marine building is nice as well, but as you said already a bit stubby. Works fine in comparison to the models.

Inspiring. I think I'm gonna try that with a Chaos base (not necessarily DoW) once I get to make an objective for my Chaos force. Enough Magic Sculp is already at hand.

Can that happen? What are the options?

With the Marines mobile fortress-monastery, you might need to modify the design slightly to avoid any IP conflict with Relic, but I doubt it--the shape is generic enough; all you'd have to do is give it a totally different name, like "Ammo Repository" and you're golden.  

Wow, I must say I would love a set of 3 DoW buildings for objectives for each of my armies (I guess marines would be base, the troop building one and the armoury)!
If I was a rich man I'd commission one of our resident model makers to do it!
Might even add some defence turrets

Actually isn't there some software for turning game 3d images into paper models? That could work for a few fast and simple objectives...
