Post subject:  Alumilite skin coat / foam

Hi peoples!

After seeing Gaskran's beautiful modular hex board I've decided to make one, and given that I don't fancy cutting fifty milimetre-perfect joining hill pieces and that I've got other small terrain pieces I've wanted to cast and replicate for a while I'm thinking of making smallish sections in polystyrene and casting it.

Obviously casting enough resin pieces of the height we want (we like big hills!) would cost silly money. I've noticed Aluminite do a product called Skin Coat along with an expanding foam and was wondering if anyone had tried these products, or knew if it'd be suitable? I've not priced it yet but it's obviously going to be significantly cheaper than resin; I'm hoping it'll be more durable than plaster too...

This effort will be my first proper shot at casting, minus plaster junk. Modular board aside I'm going to buy some rubber and a little casting plastic for some other little bits and pieces, so I'll get a bit of practise in first. Will it be enough for something like this?

Cheers!
