Building some of those nice bunkers as featured in the old Battles Book would be cool too.

That's exactly what I have in mind.

Another disaster. While trying to cast one last night, my resin mixture got out of whack and I wound up with numerous molds full of un-hardening sludge.

I do have 1 good cast of the big one, though. It's a C+ job, but I think Novaguard et. al. will get some decent use out of it.

Poured the first half of the smaller piece last night. Then I ran out of silicon.

is there no way to recover the 'sluge' by adding the hardening compound?.... i dont use resins so forgive me if this is a silly question... as for miscasts, im sure people can find uses for them... :)

I'm not worried about trying to reclaim the resin. The volumes are much less than the mold.

As a rule of thumb, the amount of resin is usually less than a tenth of the mold, by volume. So, since the large roof mold took about 12 ounces of silicon, it needs only about an ounce of resin. That's less than a buck.

The annoying thing is lost labor time.

Hey Novaguard, I'm running out of high speed white resin. Is clear resin OK?

Consectari actually likes that kind of resin. You can't tell the difference after priming.

I liked the clear resin for 3 reasons.  It seems more sturdy, has a bit more weight to it, and it's alot easier to see where flashing and mold lines need to be cleaned than on the white.

Which is an interesting contrast in visual processing. I see things more clearly on the white.
On the topic of color and visual processing, some people think that it is hard to see detail on greenstuffed figures, but I find it easy to look at green.

Along this same line of reasoning, I got some Magic Sculp in flesh color. I figure humans are good at paying attention to skin colored stuff.

Smooth-On tells me that my 2 units of silicon will arrive Monday, so the second roof mold will not be ready until Tuesday.

im not fussed about the colour, it will be intresting to see the comparison to the white resin.... see which is easier to work with..

out of curosity, is the clear resin more britle than the white resin, like clear plastics?

Usually it is a little harder and more brittle; upside is it takes a polish better.  Some of the clear stuff carves ok, but it's better to saw generally.

Silicon arrived while at work. Will pour second half of roof mold while watching Yen fix dinner.

The mold for the second, smaller roof looks good. The first mold is still cursed. Ran out of Smooth-On white 7 / 30 minute resin, moving to Micromark amber resin.

Gawd I hate that clear resin crap. It almost ruined my small mold. Switched to a supply Smooth-Cast 320, which is good but slow (20 minutes pot, 4 hours cure).

Definately prefer the 310 flavor of resin.

Novaguard! Your roofs are ready.

Please don't tell me a one piece, flat bottomed roof would have been OK. I might freak out.

If I make any roofs for myself, I'm switching to a single piece mold.
