Might sound a bit obsessive but I rarely buy any scenery and I can do without wasting a fiver on something I can't use on top of my other gaming costs. I can't tell if windows and doors would look right at 6mm scale and I'm not keen on stuff that looks out of scale on the table.

If you're going to go to the trouble of buying, painting and basing something doesn't seem unreasonable to spend thirty seconds making sure it is useable but its possible I'm just a miser.

I've picked up some really nice aquarium castles but you have to be a bit selective, geek that I am I always keep a rhino in my pocket (!) when I'm looking around pet shops to check scales. You get some funny looks but better that than find your seemingly perfect castle just looks wrong on the battlefield.

What a great idea! I'll have to remember that in the future. The last time I went into a pet store, I did see some scenery that might work, but I wasn't sure if it was the right scale.

Also on an aquatic theme..baskets designed for pond plants turned upside down and painted make fantastic hive walls or outskirt buildings. They have hundreds of tiny square holes designed to let the water in, painted up they look exactly like windows. The baskets come in a variety of shapes and sizes and cost about 30p each. Alternatively you could cut the sides of it up and use them as strips of windows for smaller buildings, a real timesaver if you want to add lots of uniform and straight windows to a large piece of scenery.

oh like the idea of the feral huts, that's a good one.. the small ones which have that fibre stuff on them would make excellent proxy huts.  nice one heretic.
