It looks great!

I would think the top of a tower would be a rather exposed positon for a landing pad though.  Most Vietnam firebases and the like (including Camp Victory in Baghdad) had their landing pads centrally located inside the fortification, and oftern with another row of sandbags around them too (to stops shrapnel damaging grounded aircraft)

Titan ramps...kewl!

Thanks Tas, for the encouragment and for the tactical heads-up!  I can see how that makes sense, but I don't think that'll be entirely practical in this case; the idea I had was that a landing pad would actually retract in to/out of the tower once the craft have landed on it (It would be modelled as though it has been raised).  There would be AA weapons and armour around this.  Does this sound reasonable enough?

As for the Titan ramp, I don't think I'm going to have room for it - which'll be clear when you see the modular defence lines that go round this :blues: - also, come to think of it, I don't think there'll be room for a Titan to stand on it anyway! :confuse:

Today I did some work to the other side, cutting and sticking stuff.  I need to get the basic structure and panelling sorted, before I can move to the fun bit - all the detailing!  More pics in the next couple of days. :)

Nice. With a little bit of engineering with plasticcard, you could have made the doors slide along the plasticcard at the side. I like sliding doors :D

What did you use for the balcony floor? The ones with all the square texture?

You are perfectly welcome!

For the landing pad, another pproach couold be an underground bunker, so what you are showing is the surface bits and the big armoured doors than open up to allow landings and launches

A couple of quick ideas:

a moveable ramp - ie one that is seperate so you can either use it or not.

What about a Titan crenullation - a cut out section of the wall without the "fighting tops" so a titan can simply walk up to it and blast over the wall?

Thanks, Lextar! :)  The only problem with doing opening doors would be that I'd have had to cut about the CoD balcony pieces first - I decided this project would be complicated and time consuming enough without doing that!  As for the square floor texture, it's walkways from the Hexagon Terrain set.

@ Tas, the idea of making the Titan ramp modular makes sense; I'll come back to that one.

Anyway, I continued working on it today, finalising some of the structure stuff and starting to add details like piping etc.

Also, here's a Vanvlak-type special :p :D  - I've added some detail to the Orbital Defence Lasers, courtesy of Super Glue tops!

So, tomorrow I'll continue adding detail and texture to the plain plasticard bits.  At this stage, I'll say that this is going a lot quicker and easier than I thought... although I'll probably run in to problems now I've said that, ha!

Thanks for looking, more pics soon!

I see that the GW measuring stick (known here as the "17" in real life, 18" in GW land" stick) has been used. Looking very good so far. And I think that you need to do something more grand next as this is chugging along quite nicely.

Eh?   :confuse:  Are you suggesting I've deliberately exaggerated the scale of this piece?  I'll have you know that I would have had to have put some kind of forward planning in to this piece before-hand to do that; whereas in fact I'm almost entirely making it up as I go along! :p

As for something more grand. well, I have my ideas, we'll see if I get the chance to make them a reality in time for Euro EpiCon... :blues:

@Vanvlak: let's put it this way, everytime I see the top of a tube of Super Glue, I think of you...

Thank you, D/S :)  as you can see they're finished... sort of :confuse: about a second after this photo was taken the turret dropped off the one on the left

So, I've been continuing to add detail, starting to work in the Retracting Landing pad, and a Comms-centre for the other Tower.

Neither of these are actually stuck down (apart from the AA weapon mount).  I'm just debating a feature of the Comms-centre: doors open, or closed?  I started sticking them on closed, but accidentally flipped one open, and wasn't too unhappy about the result.  Here's a close-up pic, any opinions?

Thanks for looking, more pics soon! :)

Oh wow - VERY nice Fireystorm :) :) :)
And nicely detailed too, something not too easy on such a big area :)

Wow, that's looking freakin' awesome! For the Comms-centre, it looks good with the doors open.

It looks nice open, especially if you paint some details inside so you can peek through it :)

If you use the plastic celotape (the ones used for electronics) you probably could have the door moveable. I did this on a model drop-ship from Aliens many years back.
