What trees do you use and how do you use them?

I've seen people recommend woodland scenics but they seem too expensive.

The GHQ terrain maker trees look reasonably priced and the pics on their website look ok - does anyone use them?

I use K&M trees. Mainly because these were the ones used in the SM/TL days in the GW studio, so I have a bit of a romantic softspot for them :D They're reasonably inexpensive though obviously nowehere as realistic or detailed as the Woodland Scenics trees.

cheap and in large lots for some of them

cake decorating shops often have much cheaper terrain things than wargaming and model railroad shops.  They can be good for alls orts of stuff

I make my own and all of you will too when I am done...

Buy tree stands from the hobby shop for around $10US or make your own trunks/branches with wire that you twist, shape, cut, and spray paint brown.

Use steel wool and stretch it over the branches - it should be a very thin layer like a spider web.

Spray the steel wool with spray glue.

Sprinkle flock of your desired color.  DONE.

They don't hold up well to lots of transport (unless you are careful with them and pack them properly) but they look great and they are inexpensive.  I used to make model trees in college for extra money at an architecture company. :)

i make my own from two nails and some foam.

take a washer and superglue two shortened nails on it. use a pair of scissors and make two foliage shaped balls or cones or whatever shape you like. roll in PVA-glue and put in a tub of flock/scatter/static and give it a good shake. let it dry for a day and poke a hole with a nail in the bottom of the foliage and superglue it to the trunk.

I gave them a look. Went into instant acquisition mode :p  and tried to order some stuff as soon as I saw what they had to offer. Cheap prices but I would have to pay $16.50 for shipping alone! So unless I have a need for a literal forest of trees then it's not worth while.   :(  I expect woodland scenics to be much the same but will give them a try.

Don't fancey making my own but may have to. I can always raid my son's toy box... Lego trees here we come.
