Hi guys

I'm about to convert a formation of Epic scale Terminators to have more varied weapon configurations.
Since I've never played 40k I'm not completely sure how each Terminator squad is organized ie. how many assault cannons, flamers, Thunderhammers and Cyclones etc.

The squad will most likely be painted up as Deathwing Terminators if that makes a difference to the weapons available.

Cheers!  :)

OK, let's not make this the briefest reply in the history of Epicomms. In the last reincarnation, the termies can have two assault weapons (i.e. two in total flamers or  assault cannon or cyclone missile launchers), whilst the sergeant can have a power sword instead of the power fist. The assault Termy squads get lighning claws, but I have to check about the number of other stuff as I'm not home, and never having fielded them, have no idea! And I don't know about Deathwing, but other than colours, I believe they're the same - so far...
cheers,
JOhn :O

Normal - like Vanvlak said, 2 specialists of your choice and a sergeant.

CC - may freely mix lightning claw and thunderhammer versions.

I don't think there is a difference for Deathwing, but I'm far from certain on that.

Cool. Thanks. So for a formation of Terminators i could do something like this:

Stand 1

Assault cannon - regular - Captain - regular - Flamer

Stand 2:

Assault Cannon - Regular - Captain - regular - Cyclone

Stand 3

claws - regular - captain - regular - Claws

Stand 4
Claws - regular - captain - regular - Thunderhammer

Assault cannon Termies are fairly easy to do so I want several of those.
I'm not too hot on the Cyclone launchers but I suppose they have their place so I'll do a single one of those.
Lightning claws is definitely a challenge but it'd probably be fun to do. Not sure if I should replace more of those with Thunderhammers. I guess that depends on how difficult they are to construct.

Would a Terminatir Librarian or Chaplain replace the Captian in a Squad ?(disregarding the rules implications in E:A)

Cheers! :)

As it is now, the Assault cannon is the most versatile weapon available to termies. It has 4 shots at strength 6, pretty high, so it can be used against light vehicles and big monsters as well as troops, and it is a rending weapon, so it can kill even a land raider with a little bit of luck, and negate armour saves with that same luck: if you roll a 6 concretely.

Flamers are OK, but it is difficult to get many shots out of them. usual?ly, one flamer template or 2 do not compensate for the sustained foire of a pair of ACs during 2+ turns. If you put them inside a land raider, then they can be prime weapons, but it requires the use of the land raider, so you can get full effect out of them. otherwise the AC is a better weapon.

The cyclone is a standard missile launcher. Your base tactical marines can carry those much better. Only really useful in pure-terminator forces. Otherwise I would vote for the assault cannon.

I like the good ol combo of AC + flammer. Unfortunately, right now it is an inefficient combination. However, it looks extremely cool in the squad. Loos like the perfect pair of weapons for hulk cleansing: one covers the corridor and the other clears the rooms. Unfortunately for terminators, right now you will be challenged to fins

a) a competitive force that uses them
b) a force that includes terminators AND they carry flammers.

As the rules stay, the AC is simply a better option.

As the captain librarian thingy, the SM terminator 40k squads do NOT have a captain. They have a SERGEANT there. Quite a difference ;) No, they do not substitute them, but are ADDWED to the unit. So it would be 5+ terminators AND a character (companyu captain/librarian/company chaplain) added to those 5-10 marines.

Regards,

Xavi

Actually, the Deathwing have been kinda shafted.  While we used to be able to mix&match weapons within the squad, now we're limited to either an assault (with one stormbolter) or a shooty termy squad.  40k v3 allowed mixed squads, where you could have a guy with a TH/SS, another with a pair of claws, 2 guys with assault cannons, and a sergeant.

Your proposed formation is OK.
