I was in the US ARMY ... I understood what you meant by TOE [or TO&E or MTO&E ] ... I wish people wouldn't say Army Lists but TO&Es. Lists are for Christmas, grocery shopping etc. NOT military units. I feel the same about GW's use of Chapter. I don't have any Chapters in my Space Marines, I have Regiments, Battalions, Companies etc. ... Chapters are for books and civilain organizations like PTA mom's who make cookies for orphans, etc. ...

I'm with you on TO&E but list does roll off the tongue easier admittedly. Chapter however refers back to the monastic aspect of the marines |

IDK, that's pretty much a logical connection once you've gone Medieval IN SPAAAAAACE.  Also we dumped using Regiments a long time ago so

Whose we ? We still use Regimental designations for Bns with in the Army and USMC ... for linage purposes, etc. ... even thought their parent unit is most likely a Bde. For example I was with 3d Bn, 187th Inf Rgt, 3d Bde, 101 ABN Div.

It's there as an esprit de corp and historical thing but as a formation and any meaning was killed in the US Army back in what? the end of the 50's right? |

Yes, you are generally correct. However to many Grunts and Tankers our linage, etc. is an important thing ... Duty, Honor, etc. ... that kind of stuff ...  And we still have ACRs, like the 3d and 11th ...
