there is some very decent work in the Sabbat Worlds anthology
emperors mercy is ok
titanicus too
and my understanding is that apparently the horus heresy books are sometimes quite good, though i've not read any yet

i highly recommend tactica imperialis and the sabbat worlds crusades if you can find them

Most of those you've listed are the ones worth reading.

Aaron Demski-Bowden is now my second favorite author from BL, bumping McNeil. I really enjoy his stuff, the Night Lord books especially. I think he also wrote Hellsreach as well.

The guy who wrote Cain also has an inquistor story line there's two out by him so far. I liked those as well.

The Horus Heresy stuff is some of the better stuff. I'd read the worst of them again before I'd reread most of the 40k books.

Whilst some of the horus heresy books can be a drag to read through, they really are a must for anyone with a thirst for 40k background.

So True....you really need to read them all for background but some are amazing and get them read in a day and then some takes me months to read cuz there a bit uneventful.

I cant seem to find which book came first. Soul Reaver or night hunter? or does it matter which is read first?

The first 3 Horus Heresy books are good. After that it turns into a quasi-homoerotic journey of Space Marines and their "glistening perfect bodies" that just doesn't float my boat. (Not judging the people here, just the literary quality of the books).

Eisenhorn is my favorite.
Warrior Brood was a C- book but fast to digest. Same with Warrior Coven.

As a standalone heresy book, especially with respect to epic, mechanicum is en excellent read.

If you liked eisenhorn, the book 'atlas infernal' is worth a shot, another slow starter and told from 2 different timelines that get confusing but as a whole I really enjoyed it.

Ahhh I don't believe that! I might not float your boat but I think it floats something! ::) :P :D ;)

It's been a long time since I've read the first books so it's hard for me to compare with the newer ones. Legion, Last Heretic, Prospero Burns, A Thousand Sons and Nemesis are all good.

I read one called "15 hours". About the life expectancy of a Imperial Guard trooper in a major warzone, which is a Ork invasion. It was a pretty short read but entertaining.
