Post subject:  Dominion of Fire - Help me with a nemesis

Hi Everyone

As the World Eater lists are being reviewed, I thought this would be a good time to look at the supplement idea for the Dominion of fire. The Lexicanum states the following:

The Dominion of Fire
During the middle of the 38th millennium, Angron and fifty thousand Khorne Berzerkers slaughtered their way through Imperial space for over two centuries. This incident became known as the Dominion of Fire. The wars and rebellions the forces of Khorne sparked ravaged over seventy sectors. In the end it took four Space Marine chapters, two Titan legions and more than thirty Imperial Guard regiments to retake what the Imperium had lost. Ninety percent of the area have since been recovered by the forces of Mankind.

Now I am looking for forces that would act as an antisepsis to the World Eaters. Skimmer armies are a given and I am just not interested in them as the main foe in this case.

Is there a list out there (judging by the above, it would be Marine and/or Imperial Guard) that would be a good challenge for the World Eaters and Visa Versa? It is important to me that both armies play differently as two purely assault armies combating each other just does not do it for me.

The list can be dormant or not even exist yet, or it can be an established one that people are happy to see played. Also a different colour to red would be handy as well.

I had an initial idea of World Eaters vs Squats as they are both directly apposed in ways of tackling a battlefield. I will keep it as a side thought..

Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have

Were the World Eaters with Angron when he faced the Grey Knights on Armageddon?

I looked at that, however that is in the 41st millenium (not 38th).

I would love to place them up against a 'Grey Knight' or 'Sisters' list as well so that is another thought.

With Zombo picking up the Sisters, I would definitely be interested in seeing the direction of his list and where he sees it going.

This could also lead me to ask Steve54 to change the 'era' of the list to the Armageddon Wars as the list does actually sit in the 41st Millenia rather than the 38th due to the options available. Hmmm.

If you do the First War for Armageddon then Grey Knights are the obvious choice.
If you out them in the 13th Black Crusade then i would choose Space Wolves.
As for the Dominion of Fire it depents on in which area of the galaxy this event happened. But the source (p36 of the current Codex Chaos Space Mariens)doesn't mention it. But well as a Crusade was called upon to end the Dominion of Fire i would say that Black Templars as a Crusading Chapter fit the bill.

I believe Dobbsy's World Eaters list is the one squaring off against the Space Wolves.

The could be cool.

I really would like to pit the World Eaters up against the Inquisition so I am wanting to move the title away from World Eaters - Dominion of Fire to World Eaters - Armageddon.

I believe I would have more fun with the Inquisitorial/Grey Knight forces rather than the Black Templars (a list I have some issues with).

Chroma is correct. After all the things we have gone through, it would be good for Dobbsy's list and this list to have a seperate nemesis and development.

Dobbsy has taken the initiative with the Space Wolves and I think this is fantastic. I hope that if I take the battle at Armageddon (which was more Daemonic in nature; as fitting the current list with the amount of Daemon engines available) people would be happy for me to continue along this path.

Further Thoughts on a possible nemesis:

- Ordo Malleus
- Sisters of Battle
- Relictors Space Marine Chapter

Suggestions made to re-consider:
- Black Templars

Not being considered:
- Orks
- Eldar
- Necrons
- Tau

Sisters are an almost entirely assault army, so don't fit your requirements. Ditto Black Templars.

I am re-thinking the stance as the armies listed offer unique elements that interest me.

I will modify that offending post now

Edit: Amended now. Let the feedback continue. ;)

I still don't think the sisters fit well from a background point of view; or at least witch hunters don't.

Fair point. Especially for Khorne :)

Templars could be cool.

Ordo Malleus would seem good. The whole Armageddon thing is very neat.

Well I have just spent hours trying to find out various information.

Dominion of Fire was the 38th Millenium and the 'four Space Marine chapters' mentioned are not named anywhere! Argh! Such lack of information is a nightmare when attempting to get the history right

Armageddon wars I believe there were 2 which the World Eaters were a part:
- First War (41st millenium) : Angron was banished by the Grey Knights
- 13th Black Crusade

I also found this ditto about one of the named characters that supports the Black Templars and the Relictors

Hrothqar Furor, the Ravager of Worlds
Commands a force of World Eaters intent on bringing Khorne\'s legions back to Armageddon through the power of Angron\'s Monolith, five hundred years after the Primarch\'s defeat. Armed with the daemon axe Deathbringer, until he and his warband are slain by a combined force of Black Templars and Relictors Space Marines.

So this leaves me to review 3 lists at the moment:

- Ordo Malleus
- Black Templars
- Relictors

In all reality, Black Templars and Relictors could be in the same supplement as they are both closley alighned to the Codex Astartes. Relictors later are ex-communicated.

There's no current Relictors list, but there's a good NetEA Black Templars list (and a tweaked version of it is used by EpicUK too).

Relictors' differences from the pure Codex would probably be unnoticable at Epic scale (Their characters just tend to use Daemon Weapons and various other Chaos artifacts in order to fight against Chaos... which wouldn't really differ in stats from what they currently have).

And later again, Retconned.
They're back to just being suspected and under the watchful eye of the Inquisition these days, their excommunication has been removed from the timeline.
