Hi, tried to search the forum but found no answer. Why are the Harlequins absent from most of the Eldar lists? |

Have a look at the 'draft' list here. Harlies are a very specialist bunch of Eldar who only appear as 'allies' - when it suits them. Trouble is that they are 'super-effective' hitting way above their numbers, which makes them very difficult to simulate without going OTT. |

Thanks, I found the List before but wondered why they were cut. Guessing the reason you mention is fair enough. (Even though it can be said about alot of units that are found in other lists. ![]() |

use them as aspect warriors, just make sure they're easily identifiable if you're using different aspects in the same formation.... they would work well as striking scorpions IMO |

We just use the stats from the collectors sections and try not to abuse the number in a formation / army. Nice and simple ![]() |

Thanks for the suggestions but I only own one or two bases of Harlequins. ![]() I asked mostly out of curiosity, to me the Harlequins is a "big" part of the Eldar fluff and there are models for them so I wondered why the were cut... |

In "friendly" games, you could try using these Harlequin bases as a 'leader' upgrade in your Aspects, replacing a single unit (so retaining the 8x unit formation strength). If you do, I suggest you try the following upgrade:- Quote: Replace one Aspect unit with a Harlequin leader. Exarch +75 points, Autarch +125 points The Harlequin leader is inspiring, and also gets the Exarch or Autarch extra attacks. Use the Harlequin stats from the draft Harlequin mask list here If you do try this, let us know how things go - especially as to how they feel compared with other Aspects |

I'm not sure about a whole army of them but I've often wondered why they can't be used and purchased similar to summoned Daemons. You could add them to a formation in assault etc as required. They sort of pop into a fight across a battlefield etc and perhaps added to both Eldar and Dark Eldar lists |

A free in-Webway option perhaps? An interesting idea. The Avatar is more like a daemon-style summoning. |

Not free, but purchased before the game just like buying a daemon pool. Except you could keep them on board. |

Worth looking into, certainly. I could look at doing a microlist as an optional allied list. |

So, how do you see this working? Would you add them to a formation permanently as some form of upgrade, or like a daemon, just prior to an assault? While I quite like the concept of using them as upgrades, allowing the eldar player to bring them into the table like daemons would seem to play to their strengths while removing their one weakness - being shot up at a distance. From a pure 'fluff' perspective, if 'leading' a formation would they not be more permanently associated with that formation than suddenly appearing and saying "follow me"? Indeed, I think we need to be very carefull about just letting Harlies "appear" on the table - IMO they need to have a focus point (a gate) from which they will appear. Consider this as a horrible, totally OTT alternative:-
This is in part why it seems reasonable to deny the Harlies the use of Vampires precisely to ensure that they retain the weakness to enemy shooting / OW etc |

Gating in would be my preference. Perhaps an option to pre-plot a teleport as an alternative to gating. I'd have to give the matter some thought, unless someone else wants to take this one on? |

Well, the draft list already allows Mimes to teleport though this would restrict them to 5x units with a character. I have not tried teleporting the entire lot in - though I suspect it is likely to be a *very* binary result, much like an all air-drop marine army with the same limitation in subsequent manoeuvrability. The current list has a number of checks and balances intended to limit the power of an all Harlie list, while allowing them to be used as allies in a fun game. In this case, teleporting is limited to Mimes and specifically objectives can only be 'held' by Leaders, which in turn reduces the number of formations. For this reason I am not sure we need to add the further constraint of pre-plotting What do you think about adding a single Harlie unit as a leader upgrade to other Eldar formations? To me this seems characterful but likely to become OTT very quickly - hence the suggestion of limiting it to Aspects. Could they be added to Guardians in place of the Farseer? |

Not sure I've seen the draft list. Or at least never given it the time it deserves. Link? Edit: nvmind, found it. I'll take a look later. |
