is there any plan to change the +1EA of the Dire Avenger Exarch to FF to match the Uber firefightyness of regular Dire Avengers. If not, could we change Striking Scorpion Exarchs to +1EA FF just to balance things out. I'm sure I saw a picture of one holding a biggish gun somewhere. He might have been leaning on a rake though, either way, the fluff supports me! I think. Hmm, might be time to go to bed. Or drink some more beer.

Both.

I don't know if this will change as Chroma goes through the NetEA Eldar DRAFT doc, but it was discussed in the exarch MW thread... oh wait, now I look, I see that was you too, and you never got an answer.

Personally, I could go either way. I understand the Diresword is the traditional weapon of the DA Exarch, but c'mon, Bladestorm! 3x4+ FF attacks is nasty, though. And Reaper Exarchs are 83.33% as good in FF on average as a three shot Avenger Exarch.

I'd much rather leave both Exarches as now - a close combat Diresword just is the characteristic weapon carried Dire Avenger Exarches and close combat weapons are for Striking Scorpions.

I dunno. I might keep my Reaper Exarchs just so the formation can prep more effectively. It's only a two one pip difference.

Still on the fence about the change though.

As others noted, the CC/FF split is based on the traditional exarch weapons and powers. The iconic DA Exarch fights with the Diresword and has enhanced CC defense powers.

That is correct.

Heck, the official Dire Avenger Exarch model has a Diresword... *laugh*

sorry Glyn, I was just being petulant when I was talking about the Striking Scorpion Exarch :)

I dunno, I just find it irritating that I can use a Dire Avenger Exarch's powers in the context of other Dire Avengers, while I can with all the other Aspect Exarchs, fluff or no. I'm sure someone popped up and said that DA Exarchs in 40k can have a nice big gun, or ninja throwing stars or something. Hey, at 6mm, squint hard enough and anything pointy becomes a gun ::)

I'm pretty sure it isn't going to be changed, it's just like having a bit of beef stuck between my teeth - I know I can't get it out (floss is at home), but I still can't help but try..

Agree.

DireSwords are kinda pants in 40K. Bladestorm, (is that right?) the ability of the Exarch to get the whole unit to start pumping out Shuriken death, is the most useful. I'd love to see the DA changed to fit the role of his unit.

Look, think of the DireSword as more of a ceremonial weapon, kinda like the Captain's sword. Sure it's usable, but more often than not it's use is to point in some direction and say, "hey guys, shoot that way!"

To jump the gun on BL...Twin Avenger Catapults (Assault 4 instead of 2) and Bladestorm, which gives every model an extra shot - total of 32 shots combined!

Ahhh! Mal jumped me!

Actually, I'd call it a case study in sampling bias...
