Okay, with all the talk about having the Avatar "stick around", here's a Biel-Tan variant I whipped up on the holidays to show how it could be done.  (No points given for the actual Great Court, as that really needs to be hashed out).  It's based on the Great Court of the Young King pdf for 40k: Apocalype.

I don't really expect anyone to playtest this as it was more of a thought exercise, but I think it could be quite an interesting "Aspect Heavy" Eldar army.

Take a look and let me know what you think!

Looks interesting. What was the reasoning behind leaving out some of the units like Night Spinners, Cobra, Scorpion, etc?

It's a "Warriors of Khaine"-focused list... no need for all that Vaul-related stuff!

A list is made special both by what is in it and what *isn't* in it.  I actually thought about removing the Swords of Vaul as well, and only allowing Falcons and such to be included in the Aspect formations, but that might make the list a little light on ground anti-air... though that might not be a completely bad thing.

I agree, I was just curious as to why you did it. But I think you made a good choice to leave in the Falcons and Firestorms. They are the meat and potatoes of the Eldar Armor.

Hmmm... wonder if there should be a Guardian Troupe in there with a Farseer to allow for the old "One, Two, Three" punch...

I kind of like the focus you have on all Aspect Warriors.

Looks like this could be a nice list,I'll see if some in our group are willing to test it when we get back playing. :agree:

Is the storm serpents price of 200 (normally 250) intentional.

If it is found to be needed why not try it in the support troupes section. It could even be of a different size to the normal one (Farseer,5 guardians and 3 wave serpents as an example).

As for points for the Great Court of the Young King I'd think around   450 as a starting point and work from there (300 for aspects,50 for Invulnerable and 100 for the Avatar).

Yes, the "discount" is intentional as a balance to all the other missing units in the list.

Jinkies!  5 Inspiring models in one formation is probably a bit crazy.

I'd put the Grand Court at ~500 points.  That might be a bit high, but 25 points per Inspiring is dirt cheap and you can get 4 of them (plus the Avatar).

It's amusing.

Well, it is the *GREAT* Court... *laugh*

And the mix of one of each Aspect Warrior unit type is grossly under-optimized, so that needs to be taken into account as well.

Again, this was just an "off-the-top-of-my-head" creation to show the flexibility of "variant" lists.

I like the theme Chroma, and as much as I like Farseers and such the like, the list flows better without them.

As for how it would play, I have this feeling it would be a bit of an all or nothing type list, in that if the Great Court and enough Aspect Warriors survived to initiate engage actions most enemy forces would probably be utterly crushed, but if they were obliterated by firepower, you would lose heavily.

It's definitely a fun list, as I suspect it would have some balance problems if anybody were to try fielding it.

I think it will suffer the same type of all/nothing results as the Harlequin Grand Masque list.  Ex.  You are able to close on a Leman Russ formation and reduce it below 50% capacity and break it on the first activation.  This would be devastating to a 3000 point IG list and recovery for the IG player would be rough at best.  If the Great Court took similar damage on turn 1 I think you would be hard pressed to do anything for remainder of the game.

In other words, I agree with Irisado.  This is one of those lists that could be tempered in a scenario where the setup was better controlled and affect the balance issues better.  Or as a sublist (like the Harlequins) where it was just a fun addition to a game.

I'm imagining that this list (tweaked) in the scenario supplement would find a good home.

I'd agree allowing 4 Exarchs seems to much but the formation wouldn't be allowed in a Vampire or to use the Wraithgate so would have to start in the deployment zone.

Unless Chroma introduced a different Gate to allow it to be use that way, then the value of the formation would probably need to be even more than 500 points.

500 points would be the safer starting point for any testing.

Keep up the good work Chroma  :agree:
