So, following up from the original DE poll, which gave support to the idea of a DE list using proxies: there are different feels to a DE list - I listed these as poll choices, and added the obvious 'something else' - if you vote for this choice, please give suggestions - d'oh, as if I have to encourage people here to come up with ideas... :p
As suggested elsewhere, remember that raiding forces may be used with lower points values and given specific objectives, to enhance the DE raider feel.

Brief descriptions:
DE raiding force, true to GW fluff
A raiding force based on skimmers, fliers, troops, and lno tracked or wheeled vehicles; no large war machines either, except perhaps for fliers, flying fortresses (no, not B-17s), landers etc.

DE Comorragh defence or expeditionary force
As above, but with heavier vehicles and weapons, as these are used to defend the DE realm, or instead are used for large scale asaults as opposed to raids - to capture prospective slave labour worlds, for example, or wipe out threats to the DE

DE with Slaanesh elements
The Slaaneshi cult idea - these would be DE with some Slaaneshi support in the form of Sl. daemons, and perhaps some DE/Slaanesh hybrid vehicles - e.g. daemonic Talos - or even daemonic MegaTalos

DE added to Slaanesh L&D
Based on the Slaanesh L&D list, with some DE added on, including troops, raiders, and jetbikes.

DE and Harlequins
Similar to the DE raider list, with extra-added Harlequins - contact between the DE and Harlies is mentioned in some 40K Eldar codex.

Non-DE race with similar traits
Going away from the DE and their troops and vehicles, and creating a race with similar traits - an aggressive light raiding force based on skimers

Oh, by the way, we also need a volunteer to write the army list if we ever get to it... ?

I actually wrote my own Dark Eldar list a while back. It needs some work to bring it up to date with the last version of the Swordwind Biel Tan list, but I'll try and post it later today - I tried to go for a raider feel, where even in a 3,000 point army, only half of your formations are on the board at any one time, and broken formations fall back to be replaced by fresh ones, emerging from the webway.

Interesting - please go ahead and post it, NO-1  :D

I think Choices 1-5 are viable, as with other Epic Forces ... The more options the better for force structure, IMO ! :;):

Hi John,

I would like a DE raider force, but one witha  full army list in case someone finds one of their pirate / raider bases and makes a go for it.

If the Eldar are capable of having heavy equipment, so are the DE although perhaps in lesser numbers since they're a splinter group.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi!

I'd go with a raider force. Perhaps allies you can get as part of a chaos army or other "bad guys".

Interesting concept, Maksim.
And for anyone interested, the link to the Netepic v5.0 Eldar including DE is this. :D

I think they should have a full army as others races, but not combined with anything else that's not DE as they'll ally with no one but themselves (and even that...) They don't like Slaneesh!!! They just try not to be devoured by "She Who Thirsts"... That's very clear in a piece of fluff present in WH40K DE section on the GW site... I think it was written by Gav Thorpe (not sure, don't remember...)... It explains DE "history" from the fall to nowadays...

But I'm digressing... They need a full army of only DE (and maybe Harlequins, for scenarios) but with a Raider feel. I'm writing my own list and it's not going bad, but as I'm also trying to playtest the Iyanden list, the Tau list, the Squat list and BFG's new Tau list (and there's also normal gaming and life, just around the corner:laugh: ) I'm processing it very slowly. If you want to give an eye to it, I could post it to you ASAP (well... not very soon I think). I've also scratch-build my first 2 Raiders, they are quite good, but it hasn't been easy, really!!!

Kisses, Icon.

That's good news Icon! I'd like a look at the list - but there's no hurry. And I'd LOVE to see the Raiders! :D :D :D

When it comes to it, I voted the wrong option!

I meant to go for one, but clicked two. Oh dear.

Still, a raiding force seems ideal. The idea of a couple of 'slightly larger' raiding vehicles doesn't seem implausible, but Titans, wheeled things...? Nah.

I always imagined a 'triangle' vehicle, three ravagers, one at each point, the insides of the rear two slipped off, with the prow's engine quarters removed should do it, then a big palanquin/deck/thing in between the three. I always though of it as a proper 'Dais', not like Vect's poncy wee thing!(Vect'd obviously have a larger vehicle for larger operations if he wished it).

Shouldn't be too difficult an army to manage to get thematically right, but to get it to work in a balanced game will
be quite difficult. How to get them to stick 'in game' though, they're going to take a ton of casualties at epic level as far as I can see. Not a good idea for a pirate race to be undergoing.

Thus I predict a need for:

- Very heavy offensive firepower
- Decent values for most things except armour
- Speedy. Quicker on the move than Eldar, easily. Raiders: 35cm kinda thing...

Anyhow, as I'm not an expert, it's probably best left to those who know!

Hi!

I voted raiding force as well. Seems to be the favored option.
