The sides face off!
All pics here.Imperial blitz is in the center with both Eldar T&Hs nearby. Eldar blitz is in a corner with an Imperial T&H nearby and the other T&H closer to the Eldar ones.
Both armies are set up in a line. The Imps because there are so many of them that just about all of them are intermingled in set-up. The Eldar want to give each other some space.
Turn 1: SR goes to the Eldar
First order of business is to activate the pulsar Phantom on the right of the table. It advanced and fired on a Shadowsword. Only 2 hits! The target breaks but lives. It will stay broken all game.
The Eldar retain and push pulsar Phantom on the left forward to do the same thing. He doubles so he can hide behind a cliff. Again only 2 hits and the enemy lives. This one will recover though and ruin the Eldar's day in Turn 3.
With 2 of their 6 activations used to break 2 Imperial ones the Eldar pass. The minervans respond by being reactive. A warhound advances to fire on the left side phantom who tried to hide behind a cliff. It gets 5 hits with 6 attacks but Holofields defeat all fire.
The middle of the turn sees some maneuvering but little damage dealt. The Eldar player finds Revenant reapercannons do nothing to Minervan SHTs. They score zero kills the entire game due to 4+ RA. Some pulsars would have been nice... The Conquerors use their amphibousity to drive right up the river.
The Minervans did make a gutsy push up on the Eldar right. The Eldar only had the Warlock left to activate at this point and discovered the salamander scout was within 40cm so it engaged. Only the hydra was close enough to help and both were easily destroyed while doing no damage in return. But +2 kills didn;t help much since the SHTs still outnumbered and both Warlocks and Commisars are inspiring. Dice off sees the Minervans win by 1... The Warlock breaks and runs back out of 30cm.
Minervans use the rest of their activation advantage to lay some BMs and advance their basilisks on the Eldar's left flank.
End Phase: The Warlock rallies. None of the Imp units do.
Turn 2: SR goes to the Eldar.
The Warlock comes back for revenge. It doubles up to the Stormhammer's ZoC then a nearby Phantom charges in. The Imps are annihilated while inflicting no damage in return. Ouch.
With his flank broken the Minervan commander decides to be bold and drives his Conquerors behind a pair of Phantoms on the other flank. They open fire and score 2 hits on the pulsar Phantom. They retain with the Warhound but do no more damage. The Pulsar Phantom figures they are trying to break it so it moves away and opens fire on some Salamanders trying to ZoC the other flank. It kills them all.
A Warhound tries to break a Revenant and fails. The Warlock advances and puts it under a hail of fire. The Imperial scout titan goes from fully shielded to destroyed. It stumbles backwards off the bridge and crashes into the river.
Turn 2 ends with an Imperial whimper and the Eldar in excellent position for a Turn 3 rolling engagement!
End Phase: The Phantom has 5 BMs but rolls a 1. SC reroll is another 1. Not good. Remaining Imp scouts are broken as well as 2 Shadowswords (the third died). 1 Shadowsword rallies and Phantom is on the menu.
Turn 3: SR goes to the Minervans!
Not about to let good fortune go by unused the Minervans pounce. The Warhound opens fire but fails to deal damage to the wounded Phantom. Then the Minervan makes a strange tactical decision and activates the Shadowsword. It moves up and fires on a Revenant rather than the Phantom it could break. It fails to break the Revenant.
Wiping his brow at his enemy's mistake the
Eldar charges the Conquerors!. It makes quick work of them. 4+RA is nice but means nothing to titan power fists. The conquerors do 2 damage though and support fire from the other Phantom is a mass of hits which all get saved. Then the Shadowsord that stangely activated and failed to do anything gets some redemption. It makes 4 attacks at 5+ (armored company commissar gets +1FF) and it scores 3 hits. 2 saves fail and 1 is a critical that strips the Phantom's holofield.
Up by 3, inspiring and outnumbering (+5) kills the Eldar player laughs and then rolls snakeeyes. The Minervan gets a 6 for tied resolution. They fight anther round with similar results. The Phantom in CC kills most of what's left but takes another hit (down 4 DC) then the Phantom in support manages to kill all but 1 tank.
And then the Shadowsword opens up again and deals 2 more hits. The Phantom collapses to the ground. The single Conqueror breaks and scoots back since its not the commissar. The nearly broken Phantom gets a BM for being part of a losing assault and finally breaks.
A 600 point unit of tanks mostly stuck in CC with a 200 point assist results in the death of both the tanks and the attacking titan and the loss of activation for the supporting one.
The Imperials find their morale increased and rush forward with their basilisks to claim Blitz. A revenant takes issue with that and runs over to contest. It also shoots but it has Nerf-brand reapercannons and does nothing. But at least it denies the point.
On the other side of the Battlefield the Minervan SC company has rushed to block the Eldar from claiming both Blitz and Take&Hold. It is up against a Warlock, a Phantom and a Revenant. It doesn't have a chance and a rolling assault leaves 1 SHT remaining and claims both objectives.
Eldar win 2-0 in turn 3.
