Well, maybe not "poor marines" - both of us are newbs at E:A so it could go either way :)

Seriously though, if you think Ulthwe minus Spirit Stones is still unbalanced, what's the other big thing(s) I should change to make it more fair? Drop the 5 strategy rating? I'm willing to try that.

Cheers
Philip

After some debate over Ulthwe and it's strategy rating, I'm left undecided. The concept is that by changing the role forces have in the list they have a different value. This isn't obvious on first inspection and it gets many cries of getting something for free. ?At the end of the last cycle of review, I put forth that Ulthwe strategy rating would be dropped to 4 to concentrate on othe points of the army I wanted to focus on. All the critics of their strategy rating stopped playing Ulwthe in favor of other lists. This proves that restructuring how forces are utilized does have an effect (but not fully that is answered all internal balance which is still debatable).

Dropping Spirit Stones will have an impact on how these armies play. Ulthwe had most of it's play under Spirit Stones so I would still like to see how their play changes without it.

The other thing that came about from the focus on Ulthwe's higher strategy rating was when it was used with Farsight keeping the inititative twice in a row. I'm not sure if this can be addressed by composition (Delivering the hammer blow at the beginning of a turn should leave Eldar vulnerable to counterattack) or Farsight revision (is being able to use that trick every turn too good of a good thing).

Ok, I'll play it as 5 for now and see how that works. I don't have a problem with going to 4 though. Won't have any effect on my choice of army, I've played exclusively Ulthwe in Epic and 40k since 2nd edition (ie. since before it was cool :)

Cheers
