After combat and consolidation.

If the character is in a Slaverbringer (all counted as 1 formation), can the portal be deployed from the air without landing?

No.

Can the Slavebringer carry Talos or is it a deliberate omission?

Deliberate - see what, how, why section.

Placing the portal after an engagement. If the formation with the portal is broken after the engagement - the model with the portal survives though - can they still place the portal?

I see no reason why not.

In principle, a broken unit can still use it's special ability,
- Eldar can still exit the Wraithgate on a Broken Storm Serpent,
- Characters retain their special abilities when broken so still count as inspiring, etc

Don't forget that the broken unit has to withdraw to a point that is outside 15cm from enemy units, which can force the units somewhere less favourable to the DE, and it may need to be more than 30cm from the enemy to aid rallying.

Yeah, breaking after the engagement is not ideal - not least because it prevents rolling support - but being able to place even if broken does help with getting DE one turn wonders.

Anyone have ideas about the intended use case for the Dark Eldar Barge? Or maybe some odd ideas about how to use it?

Tried the Barges out on Monday. Tried being a bit unorthodox, took a Haemonculi Coven+Grotesques in 2 barges (making it my second BTS after the Lord). Idea being to have a fairly sturdy, mostly fearless formation to form an anchor to operate around.

They are flying deathtraps.

The shadowfields don't last long and your opponent will probably target them as they are soft targets with only a 5+ save and blowing one up is potentially 4 more casualties (meaning blowing one up and all on board can net 8BMs...).

Definitely not worth it if they will make a second BTS as then focusing down the formation is highly enticing to the enemy and not that tough to do.

Will try adding 1 to a warrior formation, making it 300pts (so won't be BTS) and replacing 2 raiders, the single remaining raider can hide behind the barge as it is a WE it blocks line of sight. Might make the warriors unfortunate enough to be on the board T1 a little bit more survivable.

I'm still building my DE force (in a very sloooow pace) but have been experimenting with different builds. The Barge doesn't make it into any of them. Just craploads of cheap activations with the most expensive costing 300p usually...

Yeah, lots of activations is usually a common strategy but it's one that can lead to problems when you actually make contact with the enemy as the small formations often get pinged and crippled or lose the ability to actually hurt anything. Coordination is key.

My collecting philosophy is 'at least one of everything on the list' so I've got barges and am trying to find a use for them!
