OK, while we are firming up Eldar, a "silly" question arose in the recent UK Epic GT:-

Where two Eldar players meet, each with Wraithgate capabilities, can they bring troops onto the table through any gate including those of their opponent?
RAW it seems that they may, though I have never seen or heard of it happening. Here is the relevant quote:-

Each webway portal included in the army allows the Eldar player to pick up to three other formations, and keep them back on the Craftworld. Any formation’s that are kept on the Craftworld may enter play via the Webway Portal, by taking an action that allows them to make a move, and then measuring their first move from the position that a webway portal occupies on the tabletop. Note that the formation may appear through any portal, not just the one that was ‘used’ to allow the formation to be kept off-board. No more than one formation may travel through each webway portal each turn.

Next Rug will bring up his idea about landing on enemy formations with Landing Craft and sucking them up into its cargo bay. :-)

I like the idea

It would make placing the gate quite a strategic ploy over and above what it is now.

In fluffy terms, there is no reason why both Eldar should not be able to use both webways. I say do it! :D

Note, I did resist the notion of Eldar using Necron 'portals' as that felt a bit too powerfull - and silly!! ;)

Note, using an opponents Storm Serpent gate might prove a little contentious depending on your definition of 'blocking' a gate; essentially you would be moving into an enemy ZoC if not actually moving over an enemy model - - - ::)

It would be brilliant if you could pour out of each others portals and the like :) That stormserpent army would be somewhat nervous :) But yes the stormserpent zoc would certainly be an issue. Presumably you would have to fight your way out :)

Currently I believe if the avatar is popped both sides get bm's?

I would think that allowing both Eldar players to use static gates, remnents of the Eldar Empire, would make sense. I envision the Storm Serpent portal to be a transient gate, triggered at need, instead of continuously using onboard power. Thus it would not be accessable to enemies.

I must say I was thinking along the lines that SG presented (and what Frogbear was hinting at). It would certainly make life a little more interesting - and indeed once used, the gate could not be reused that turn.

Ok, here is an even 'sillier' question :) :- So if only one side has bought a gate, could the other side put troops in reserve with the express aim of coming out of the gate? Note there is a limit of three formations per gate, and I presume that they would take turns declaring "Reserve" formations; so if permitted, (and assuming he went first) presumably the 'interloper' could declare three formations using the gate thus blocking the owner from using it himself.

While this sounds harsh, in practice the 'interloper' would then be fighting at a significant disadvantage in activations, and potentially with a divided army (if the gate is a long way into the opponents table half), so I am not sure it is such an impossible idea. What do you think guys??

This was brought up in the past and the tournament ruling was that they cannot use each other's gates. With that said, I rather like the idea - it sounds ridiculously chaotic.

Basically, it's fine to agree to that in friendly play, but in "strict" tournament play, each army, and all its constituent parts, are considered its own entity with no sharing to the opponent.

It certainly could be cool though, especially in an Eldar vs Dark Eldar fight... heck, you could have a fight *in* the Webway if you wanted to take it to *ultra* cool!

As to an Eldar army with no 'Gates, well, they can't keep formations in reserve in the Webway, so they wouldn't be able to co-opt another Eldar army's 'Gate.

Cool question!

You have to take a Webway to be able to hold formations of board.
