One comment which came up in the ABC batrep was that Broadsides should be increased to 300 points for 6 - putting them on a level with Marine Dreadnoughts. I think that this sounds sensible.

What do you think?

OK by me, CS.

Yeah.
Well, maybe :)
Is it the combo that was effective or the troop type? I have used them (once) and they were okay, to be honest I tend to remember more the hammerheads as I love the hover tanks - good armour, excellent guns, great mobility, skimmer/counter charge for assaults. Definatively for me the signiture Tau unit (firewarriors, hell why would I field them? :) ).

Certainly on a wider note the 'feel' of the army for them is interesting, I agree that its an 'easy' army in that everything is specialised in a way we understand but not fragile like eldar - it is as CS pointed out the closest to a modern army and therefore something most are familar with.

There seems to be a few good reasons to increase the cost of the Broadsides. The 75cm/AT2+ being the biggest. However, compared to Marine Dreads, they suffer in other ways - LV, CC, FF...

That said, I dont think that they should necessarily be cheaper in points than their Marine 'cousins'.

My proposal is 300 points for 6... although an alternative would be 200 points for 4 - making the formation more fragile, smaller than the FW pack size but fitting in to the 4/8 force structure.

My instinct is to go with 300 points for 6. Any final objections?

Stick with the 6 units CS - we had this argument out last time we adjusted the Broadsides. It's fluffy and the general consensus was that we changed them to LV (one per base) and IIRC we made them a 6 unit formation to balance up the loss of FP from the 8 shots of the old version of BS - not to mention the lack of durability with a 4 unit formation.... Just on your proposal for 300 points however, what did we come up with regarding the cost of the 6 unit formation back then? It was set to 250 for a reason I thought..

This thread...

Broadsides again

250 was a sensible starting point. Worth re-reading, for me at least, as I feel more convinced that 6 units is correct (more resistant to blast markers, essentially).

I as a rule start high and work low. that way if mistakes are made at least the end result is underused not exploited.

I've been perusing the 4.4.1 list CS. With this proposed change in points, will the upgrade to Broadsides remain at 125 points?

Post subject:  Broadsides

No. The upgrade would be raised in line at 150 points.
Thanks.

Oh CS, you might want to change the wording in the army list support group listing....

6 Tau XV88 Broadside BattlesuitTeams to just Battlesuits (or units - depending on how you want it to be read)

Thanks. This will be changed to 300/150 points in the next version.
