This contains a list of items classified as either ?for consideration? or ?resolved?, with an outline of the change to be applied.
Items for consideration
- ?Proper? Tau names for units: This item keeps getting pushed back. I am not convinced that it is totally required, but it remains here for consideration. I have the proposed list of names for this.
- Swordfish: Discussion on the viability of this unit. What is its purpose and role within the list? In what way does this upgrade change the core formation, and is it taken in ?all? Hammerhead formations?
- Orca: Can these units be exploited, and are they too cheap? Nine Orca equals 900 points and a potential last turn drop (main rule change to disallow dropships to capture objectives?) and nine activations. Should they be limited to one per Cadre, or per Fire Warrior Cadre, or only allow Orca to start the game loaded up? (Note: Proposal to add a note to the Orca stat box/datafax stating that it cannot be used to capture objectives.)
- Special rules restriction: We have pretty much reached the limit to the number of special rules which we will be able to get through to a final version of this list. We must turn out attention to reducing and restricting the sheer number of special rules in the Tau force list. (See also the discussion on the Support Craft special rule.)
- Co-ordinated Fire: Is this functioning correctly? It should replace the traditional commander special rule for the Tau.
- Manta, Support Craft rule: Something about this rule doesn?t feel right. Support craft which begin the game on the board, cannot drop of transported troops. Should the Support Craft rule be changed to represent lower flying aircraft rather than troop drops? Do support craft survive, or simply become a fire magnet? Should the Manta be allowed to self planetfall without the space craft requirement?
- Heavy Drones: Do these deserve AP3+ or should it be reduced to AP4+.
- Auxiliary Formations: Do they replace core Tau infantry units, or supplement them? Auxiliary formations should be taken as a play style choice, and remain balanced with a ?pure? Tau force build. Do the Fire Warriors, Path Finders, Human Auxiliaries and Kroot formations equate and balance with each other?
- Kroot: Should the Kroot be split into two formations (a Scout Kindred with Carnivores and a Master Shaper upgraded with Kroot Hounds and Knarloc Riders, and an Ambush Kindred with Carnivores and a Master Shaper upgraded with Krootox and Great Knarloc)? Currently, this would mean the addition of the Knarloc Riders stats, which is also a unit which does not have a miniature in production. Also, either of these Kindred formations can be constructed using the current formation structure. So, what would this change add to the Kroot, how would it make them more attractive?
- Formation names: A Tau alternative to 'suport group', which sounds a bit like an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.
- Tigersharks: 300 point formation balanced against similar formations from other forces?
