Just curious, what determines our SC's cost?

I took a look at the Steel Legion (least h-t-h combat oriented SC of the 3 main books). He's only 75 points - unless my math is wrong.

SL inf plat = 250
7 chimera = 175
----------------
 Subtotal = 425
Sup Cmdr = + 75
=============
GRAND TOTAL = 500

So if my math is right, why do some SC's cost 75 and others cost 100?

What's the demarkation point?

Actually, a better comparison would be between the SL Mech Co and the HQ, it's 400 points vs 500 points, so a 100 point difference.

The HQ Supreme Commander stand get 1 better armour (5+ vs 4+) , and 1 better CC (6+ vs 5+) than a regular IG Commander.

The craziest is the Marine SC costing 100 points... or even their "normal" characters costing 50 a pop... *laugh*

Then again some are free (Orks), others cost other amounts and so on.

I think its generally based around how much do you need that re-roll and how can we get you to take it in a fluffy fashion?

So steel legion is mech, the sc goes in there. Marines are anything, charaters everywhere, Orks tend to go for the big toys etc.

TRC, you seem to have an echo.. :p

I would guess that perhaps the SM SC costs 100 points as with initiative 1+ across the board the two rolls result in a much greater sucess rate.  In other words the SM reroll is more likely to succeed.

That said it doesn't help an already weak(ish) list.

The Ork SC must go in the biggest formation (IIRC), so he will be both SC and BTS.  A more valuable target.

Ork warlord must go to great gargant if there's one present yes. Otherwise just to one of the warbands nobz or gargant(note or. He can go to nobz if he wants. No need to be aboard gargant).

In the Ferals and Freeks list, the Warlord goes in the biggest formation.  IIRC, that's "biggest" based on total number of units/DC rather than highest point total.  But I could be off on that as I haven't played either in a while.
