Guys

Sorry if this has been covered before but should the HH contingent have the netwroked drones upgrade available in 4.3.3 of the army list?? At the moment its not on the list of possible upgrades, is this done on purpose or an oversight??

btw played Tau for the first time yesterday and have a 50% record... Lost against SM (batrep to come in the next few days) and beat AMTL (no batrep as forgot to take notes...I'll blame the beer that was consumed!!)

My opinion is that the smaller formations should be more fragile than the main cadres, and therefore the Networked Drone upgrade should not be available to HH contingents. However, I am open to the opinions of others on this.

Actually, I've stopped taking the contingent when the AHMC became available, though they are a choice in smaller point games.

However, back to the issue, logically there's no reason why they couldn't be made available to contingents, however, we'd then need to revisit the issue regarding Stingrays if we did.

As it stands, if we only keep the ND to the larger formations, I think we have less balance issues to investigate.

All that to say, I think we ought to leave them off all except the AHMC.

I'm in two minds.

I can see why the list has them assigned to the larger formations, however, so if nothing comes of this topic, I'm not going to bust a blood vessel. :cool:

That said, I think at least the armoured contingents could use them - a couple of network drones would be an asset to the HH contingent on the battlefield and I don't see a major issue with armoured forces using these things(even seems fluffy to me). It's not as if Tau formations are rife with leaders. Other armies do get more choices of leadership in their lists. Rallying your stronger (more reliable) formations is always helpful when you suffer from wilting.

I was at first on board with only offering them to the AMHC. However, I've changed my mind and think they should be offered to the HH contingent and the stingrays.

I've found that I first look to taking the AMHC in preference to the smaller HH contingent or even stingrays because the network drone availability there. The tau list suffers from BM managment so much that I want to mitigate that anywhere I can.

There are many games where I do take the HH contingent, and I take the stingrays about as often, but only as a tertiary choice to taking an AMHC.

I've actually built my list with the Network Drones on both of these formations (stingrays and hh contingent) just this past Saturday, and after we got the models out - I realized I messed it up (again) so had to rework the list at the last minute.

I ended up pushing out FW cadre and turned it into PF's, then I moved my HH contingent up into an AMHC, and I kept the stingrays but lost the network drones.

The formations all still have init 2, so the leader only comes into play if you either marshal, hold and regroup, or *successfully* regroup in the end game.

I'm currently of the mind that the network drones should be available to AMHC, HH Contingent, and Stingray Contingent.
