If I buy 2 Morays why do they have to be put in a formation together? Why is it that they can't deploy separately - say one dropping in and one being deployed on table at get-go? Do they need to be this way? It would be more tactically useful to make them separate. Is it written this way to fall in-line with the Warhound purchase format? i.e you have to put light WE's in a formation of 2.

Lol, bitter experience Tactica?
On the plus side (and there is a big plus side as I know even Tactica loves the Morays) they have pretty awesome firepower and when applying that firepower they reverse the "you can see me rule" into "I can see you.. no matter where you hide".
PS I don't believe that Warhounds must be in the same formation?

CW,
No question, I love the FP that the morays deliver.
I'm not saying they stink or anything, quite the contrary.
My points in the previous post were around fielding them individually, not whether they were good models.
Dobbsy's question seemed to be around whether we could take 2 formations of 1... not whether they were any good. I was just siting how in formations of 1 - they could be in trouble.
My only suggestion to Dobbsy is that they really don't work well (in my experience) in stand alone formations. They must be doubled up and must be planetfalled for another 150 to have the best chances for an impact IMHO.
Cheers,

Tactica, I agree with your analysis. If you want them to go "toe-to-toe" with heavy hitters (like the IG examples you mention) then it has to be two Morays in the formation.
As always there is a balance to these things. Such as the fact that your 2 Morays will often be the BTS, which usually would have more than 6 "wounds" by preference. The single Moray is less of a loss. And, of course, it depends on your enemy, versus IG with SHT/Arty/DSM any WE can be taken out a lot more quickly than usual.

Cw,
that's a very good point actually. My Morays are typically my BtS formation. That does make them gunned for.
I may try the single moray drop at some point. I think it will still be the immediate target for the enemy, but perhaps it will not be pursued and chased to the point of extinction. Hmm.. I'll have to consider what i'll fill that void with though. That takes a chunk out of my hard hitters.
cheers,

Tactica, no easy choices with the Moray. 1 or 2, planetfall or not, Rail Cannon or Ion Phalanx.
A thought.. a single Moray is less of a risk to drop on turn 2. Obviously you sacrifice a turns shooting, but if you aren't getting 4 turns of shooting because you get killed/broken quickly it might work out better.

In addition to what CW said, dropping 2 Morays separate (2 Formations) on opposite sides of the board (left and right flank) might really freak out your opponent. Also, causing him to move formations willy-nilly.

Then the Hell breaks free for your opponent....
