I've just been doing some artwork for back banners for my army, I'm going for an anime, space samurai, look and the plan is to print them out in colour on acetate before attaching to my squad leaders with the Sept and Aun's standards carried by the commander's bodyguards.
Tau Heraldry
(The background text won't survive at final size but they look a bit dull on screen without it.)

Thats very nice art.
Would you mind send it to Warmaster for inclusion in NetEpic gold?

Well done - the banners look great! I've not seen many custom sept designs, very nice. Thanks for sharing!

In the past I've tended to do armies out of the book, even if it is a pretty obscure choice, and with this army my intial idea was to do a Farsight enclave force, mainly because I liked the look of the Farsight model in the codex. Hoverver, I don't really trust GW with the background of my force, especially as the prevailing view seems to be that Farsight is going down the hacknied 'Chaos Possesed Monster' route. So I decided to create my own army from scratch.
I had always liked the idea of a Tau force that could be deployed directly from orbit and this has since evolved into an air mobile force mounted in Orcas with close air support provided by Tigersharks and Baracudas. With such a heavy reliance on the Air caste the Vash'ya sept was the obvious choice and, as the 40k Tau air force is made by Forgeworld, it seems a fairly safe bet that GW will leave the sept as little more than a foot note giving me free reign to do what I want.
The sept mon (for want of a better word) is designed to echo the Air caste symbol and will translate well to being presented in the triangular format used in the BFG lists.
As I'm now coming to the end of painting my Chaos army (I've finally managed to make that Slaaneshi army that's been there or there abouts since I bought Lost and the Damned all those years ago...) and there is talk of a winter campaign I'll be working on more background for the Vash'ya way of war. Who knows? I might actually do some painting...

(BTW; The background text on the banners reads "Gue'la don't surf".)

I love this! I don't know how it will play out in epic, but sounds really fun to play around with.

This reminds me of our team name this past year at AdeptiCon for some reason... "Gloria Victis"
translates, Glory to the Defeated.
