New mercenaries? Hadn't heard of these. I like the idea of new mercenaries - not sure about the style though - I think it's their feet.... ![]() |

Hi, forgive my ignorance. But, what are they? Never heard of them so far. Does someone knows more about them? Cheers! Steele |

Ummmm - they're suplied with rifles (or carbines?) by the Tau; they have limited armour, again supplied by the Tau; they're a different race to the Tau, and seem different from the Kroot as well. They can fly. The models will be metal, and expensive. They'll be a fast attack choice. The Epic version will only be released by Forgeworld, and then only after L-4s Knarlocs are done. ![]() |

The link does not seem to work for me, but I have a concept sketch that did the rounds on the web last week. Thewy are interesting, but will be very powerful by the looks of things. Flying troops, hard hitting. Originally, it was thought that they would be Wnd2 in 40K, and about the size of Ogres! I think that now they are more like standard troops. I found the pics, and they look interesting. Still, it has been noted that 'Vespid' sounds like an Italian scooter! |

Steele, The Vespid are a new Tau auxillary. They are rumored to be in the new codex to release in April. The weapons they carry are supposed to be different than the carbine or pulse rifle, but are definitely alien looking. The weapons were thought to just be the new version of carbine/rifle, but the new codex cover are appears to eliminate that myth. The new 40K Codex Tau Cover Art... http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakka....t=10926 How about the new Tau 40K FW broadsides - WIP? This is from somebody elses site http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v230/ ... 796278.jpg Did you guys also notice the Tau 40K manta on the dakka dakka site? 'wave' Rob |

Oh yeah I did, the thing is gonna be enormous! (Please have a Tau airborne assault as the display piece at GD2006, with Hunter Cadres deploying from those new Mantas...) Vespids are not too fantastic, though. Gary |

Not sure on the vespids either. We still need some epic Knarlocs first (all praise L4) Did like the look of the WIP broadside. |

From a 40K perspective, I'll pass on the Vespids. I liked the gun and the feet were nice, but everything else looked like a SM pose in bug armor. If I was looking for a scouting/HtH force, I'd probably rather have some Knarloc riders that can scout and hold terrain...assuming of course that EA Knarloc riders can do that. ? ![]() I haven't even looked at the non-Tau stuff in the list as there's so many goodies in there right now, I'd have to be building a pretty big list before I got around to things like that. BTW, it's good to have the board back. Kudos to whoever brought it back to life. |

Honda, I think you have a point there. In epic, there's too many 'must have' core items for me to fuss around with auxillaries much. I've been trying the kroot as of late, and talk about a big steaming pile of Sh'crap... blah. Anyway, I digress. Unless the Vespid bring quite a bit to the table, probably wouldn't sacrifice any current formations for them in epic. |

This is the main reason I've been so quiet the past couple of months. ?I don't know how much of a shakeup the Tau are going to get, but I want the codex in my hands instead of guessing how things will work. |

Breotan, You have a point. As tau in epic are a real reflection from the current (soon to be out dated codex) and since epic tau's publication, we've seen a new taros book and are looking a completely new reference codex... perhaps there's enough unpredictable influx on the horizon that we really ought to limit what we have to tweaks, and take a wait and see approach on major changes until we see things to come. It would kinda stink to have a brand new epic:A tau list based upon an outdated version of the tau that had to be fixed in 40K. An understanding of things to come in the new tau 40K codex may offer simple solutions to current problems in the E:A tau list too. I do wish JG would revise the list though - in his absense, there's a bit of a stall starting to happen around these parts. Other lists continue to make good progress, but with the 1-2 punch of JG's absense and epicomms losing some really good discussions, Tau development is now at a crawl at best it seems. I really would like an alternate champion to take JG's place in his absence. I mean no disrespect to JG, but contingency plans and personel would really help things out. When development stops because one person is absent, its really telling of how fragile all of this effort really is. Just all a bit discouraging I suppose. |

Well, hopefully there will be something in relation to the Tau Empire that will help you feel less depressed about the situation... I wouldn't be too quick to panic, though. Even if the T'au list is made official before the 40k Tau Empire codex is released, there's no reason not to see what needs to be modified for the Epic army (there is still no guarantee that there will be that much of a revision to the existing units, plus I wouldn't be surprised if at least some of the Tau modifications will be influenced by the work done on the Epic list) Besides, there is no need to slavishly follow the 40k viewpoint on everything - Epic 40K's detachments were an all too clear example of that idea taken too far...
