OK, I've seen several other sites where people are saying their IA:3 books are starting to arrive from FW (even though they were not supposed to 'depart' until the 15th per the site). So I'm wondering what the Taros Campaign list looks like compared to our v4.1 list. Did AX-10/Whitesharks & Swordfish make it in for example? Thanks, |

BTW: this is completely off topic as it's all 40K... but as our Tau reference 40K as a 'guide' to development, check this out - from the yahoogroups 40K-Tau forum... PS - enjoy! ------------------------------------------------------------ Just got back from Chicago, and before I head to bed I wanted to share a few juicy details from the IA3 book I picked up while I was ?there. Much of the new stuff is unexplained. Forgeworld didn't want ?to delay releasing IA3 until after the new codex came out, so they ?just released the book with a whole bunch of new upgrades that are ?entirely unexplained. We can guess though! Hammerhead: There's now a 3rd secondary weapon option... 2 Gun Drones ?for +20 points. Also, it explicitly states that skimmers cannot start ?the game landed. Devilfish: May replace gun Drones for a SMS for +20 points. Tetra: Now are 50 points. You can now bring a squadron of one Tetra. ?The Tetra's D-pod works differently now. Weapons fired at the Tetra ?from more than 12" way count the Tetra as an obscured target. (blech, ?that's pretty lame) Piranha: Now are 60 points. Are legitimate fast vehicles!!! Are now a ?Fast Attack choice. XV8: The wording in the entry suggests that hardwired support options ?will now cost the same as their hardpoint options. Targeting array is ?available for +10 points but cannot be hardwired. Can now buy Marker ?Drones as wargear for +30 points each. Also, new weapon prices: Flamer: 4 (6 if twinlinked!!!!!!) Burst Cannon: 8 (12 if twinlinked) Plasma: 20 (30 if twinlinked) Fusion: 12 (18 if twinlinked) Missile Pod: 12 (18 if twinlinked) XV81: Includes a SMS (occupies a hardpoint) for +20 points. Other 2 hardpoints MUST be filled with weapons. (this seems strange to me... the book has a fair number of typos and I'm wondering if this is a typo too...) XV84: Includes a Markerlight and Target Lock for +15 points (do NOT occupy any hardpoints!) XV89: Has a 2+ save, but it's assault move is reduced to d6" instead of 6", for +25 poitns. Shas'o R'myr: Has a DOUBLE BARRELED plasma rifle (Assault 2), a shield generator (4+ inv vs shooting, 3+ inv in close combat... I don't know if this is ALL shield generators, or just his?), an ejector system (I'm assuming this works similar to the one for our flyers?), and a flechette discharger. The flechette discharger wounds every model attacking him in close combat on a 4+ BEFORE resolving attacks!!!! He costs 160 points. Broadsides: Can buy a Target Array for +10 points. Can buy an Advanced stabilisation system for +10 points. It doesn't say if either of these can be hardwired... but I assume they can't. No clue what an "Advanced stabilisation system" does, but I bet I can guess Can now buy Marker Drones as wargear for +30 points each. And last but not least... there are now rules for a 40K Manta. I won't get into all the details, but suffice it to say, it's a Superheavy Flyer with roughly Hammerhead Armor, 10 structure points and a 4+ inv save against all glancing/penetrating hits. It's got a twinlinked heavy railgun (submunitions is S7 AP3), 3 twinlinked long- barrelled ion cannons, 16 drone controlled (BS2) long-barrelled burst cannons, one twinlinked missile pod, a network markerlight (similar to the skyray's), and 10 Seekers. It costs 1980 points. The wording in the description suggests that the Manta CONTAINS an Orca inside it. In addition to that, it can itself carry 140 Tau Warriors OR 4 'fish chassis OR 50 XV8's, OR 36 Heavy Gun Drones OR... etc. The book is amazing. |

I'm eagerly waiting my copy. This is my firsts IA purchase and I want to see exactly what they did with the Epic Tau list. I'm hoping it's just a list of unit stats and not an actual attempt at a GT list but I'm not getting those hopes high. Off topic, I also need to know what they have as far as a proper Elysian list so I can begin work on that. I hope they don't try to make them a Guard version of the Deathwing as the description they once had on their site seemed to suggest. |

I have received an automated notice that my copy of The Taros Campaign has been handed off to the mail handlers and will be thoroughly coddled and fondled and possibly even folded, spindled, and mutilated prior to being deposited at my residence sometime early next week. Oh, the anticipation. |

My copy finally arrived in time for the weekend. It's a fascinating read, even for just the fluff. It's put together like some historical reference on World War II and is quite an impressive tome. On first glance, it appears that they've taken one of the earlier Tau lists and simply added some units and updated others to factor in the models that Forge World makes. For example, Hammerheads now have a single entry that incorporates all the Hammerhead variants including the twin-linked turrets. Forgeworld doesn't have a .pdf, so I'll have to create a .doc file to upload to this site so we can test and evaluate what Forge World has done and contrast it with where we want the Tau list to go. The only negative thing I can see about IA3 is the sticker price. |

Yep, I had a chance to look at a friends book this past weekend. Great tome of knowledge for the tau fan there. I highly recommend it. I noticed that the GM on all units were 5+ and not 6+. This is something JG had been planning on changing for some time as I understand it. To my dismay there was no moray in there. I suppose that's possibly because the moray wasn't out yet. The FW cadre was only 150 points. but can't remember on model count. ========= I know in the 40K sections I was happy to see the Skyray got a good face lift and is a much better piece now! two network markers means it gets to fire at two different targets and fire it's own seekers - cool. Also, it doesn't have to be anti-air now either! AA is just an option for it. It looks to be a much better anti-tank piece than before as it can now be much more mobile. Devilfish now have SMS options! There's going to be something called marker drones now. Tetras got cheaper and piranha's become fast! Broadsides are going to have the opiton to have stabalization platforms or something like that - no clue as to what they do. OK, I have a clue - move and fire rails - but no official word as to what they do. Broadsides and crisis now are going to get targetting array upgrades - so they'll hit better in general now! (yay) 40K has MANTA rules!? Wow... impressive! The tigershark/whiteshark is one entry in 40K. The tiger will be able to swap the ions for rails and have a network marker light plus more missles as rumored (yay!) So, that's all from memory - but what I seen. |

I'm a little concerned about certain units being consolidated with "swapouts". It seems that this will have similar problems to the SHT regiments in the Steel Legion list. Shadowswords can be swapped in for Baneblades at the same price and since the Baneblade is the poor cousin here, it makes little sense to take them at the moment. We need to look at how each variant performs and consider modifying the detachment costs if necessary depending on which variant is chosen. |

I kind of agree with the Hammers. I'd prefer to have maybe 2 profiles, an AT-heavy and an AP heavy varient. It would also be possible to divide the varients into the 2 "counts as" for the Ion and Rail official types. The other thing that would be interesting would be the Burst Cannon varient being a short range AA as well as good AP. |

found out today that my book shipped on the 11th, so with any luck I'll have my hands on my signed copy in the near future and will be able to reply to this topic a bit more accurately. I know what you are saying with shadowsword and baneblade. There are pros and cons to single entries with upgrades. The approach usually works if the upgrades are pointed... but if there's one point entry for "hammerheads" now just pick your weapon, that's when it doesn't work well. So I wonder if the FW list from IA:3 will receive a update to it online as changes are made in the online list we are working on? |

I doubt it. FW is separate from GW and even SG. Also, FW is not official in any respect, so I don't expect to see their list posted in the vault any time soon. I say we test the FW list, take whatever works and leave the rest. |

Breotan, "take what works" - a valid approach, I agree. I'm eager to try their list - just to see what GM 5+ across the board does instead of the pathetic GM6+ across the board. I think this is a must have change to the list. I'm also looking forward to trying their tigershark variants. |

I am looking forward to trying out these rules as well. I asked FW if the models listed in Epic but not released will be made and it was a yes/no kind of answer. There is plans to do them but dont know when as the schedule for them is not for this year. In the following sentence, it was mentioned that scedule change all the time so we cant come to any conclusion as yet.... I do hope they do them and would be interested in what the FW seminar will tell us at the UK gamesday in September. The SG seminar would be interesting to for that matter |

I will .... Hopefully we will see something even if its a rather small release for new year or something, that would be nice. |

I was under the impression that there would not be a seminar this year - that it had been replaced by a monitor cycling through a few new releases, and a stall with the various studio represenatatives to chat to. |
