Well, I just found a previously unknown to me fairly local Tabletop association, and with multiple EA players. So I now have the an opportunity to play a lot more regularly. I’m just new to the whole battle report , testing procedures, maybe I’m making a bigger deal of it than it is? But , anything I need to know in order to properly test it? Play games with both the old and the new version? Etc...

Since this is already approved, it's a little easier. Some people enjoy putting together a big bat rep, but I also know we all have real lives and it be hard to balance that. I'd ask for a few things:

1) army lists that each player brought;
2) winner of the game, and the objectives;
3) what you're testing;
For the Manta, its be great if you noted how you used the extra points;
4) you're impressions of the changes and if possible, your opponents changes;
5) general narrative of the battle highlighting if the changes played a role anywhere specific.

Thanks!

One, the formation will count as having one leader, “Leader” allows you to remove one extra blast marker when ever removing blastmarkers. Bonded team will however count in addition to any other “Leader” in the formation, for the third sphere this would mean an Etheral in a FW team, this would grant you two Leader abilities and hence allow you to remove two BMs when removing them.

Late replying but answering some things discussed a while ago:.

I measure ranges to whichever is closest of base or model. So no Manta overhanging the deployment zone while it’s base is in 15 Cygnus, the whole model would have to be within the 15.

I used a formation of Ionheads in my last tournament and think they’re fine.

Railheads have been regularly played and used with Burst Cannons since back in 2014 and been fine. Along with the extra cost it helps balance the extra power of the Railgun since it got Lance. Upping them to SMS isn’t needed and would hurt the internal balance between the different Hammerhead types.

Cygnus - I have a WIP Manta I’m painting up and have it on a 120mm wide oval base.

650 points seems reasonable to me for the Manta 575 too cheap and too big a drop in one go. It’s an all rounder, good but not great in lots of different ways.

I’m happy with the Tau list as is and don’t think it needs changes. The one and only exception to this would be Crisis Suits which are rubbish are rarely used (and if used only a single formation used so as to have a supreme). A small points drop to 225 could help.

Hello there. Dipping my aged toes back into the Epic waters and decided to go with the Tau first (only because I had a bazillion models lying around that needed love).

I noticed that there is no Supreme Commander stat for the Shas'O. The description states it as the Supreme Commander, but there is no Supreme Commander in the notes. So, is s/he the SC in name only or is this a clerical error?

"Leader. The Shas’o allows the Tau player to re-roll one failed initiative test (of any type) per turn." I know I've been out of it for awhile, but don't these two special rules equal Supreme Commander?

What am I missing?

I think you're not looking at the current list: https://tp.net-armageddon.org/

Shas'o has the following notes: Coordinated Fire, Leader. Each Shas’o character in the army allows a player to re-roll one failed initiative test (of any type) once per turn.

Yup. That's the one. I'm just wondering if there is a distinction, since the current printed rules really mean, "Coordinated Fire, Supreme Commander."

At least I think they mean that.

There is a distinction, The “Supreme Commander” key word grant “Leader” and “Commander” a “Commander” are able to lead combined assaults. A Shas’O as stated has Coordinated fire instead, Thus , were you to give a Shas’O “Supreme Commander” he would be able to perform combined assaults as well , but this he can not do.

Ahhhh, that makes complete sense. Thank you! Okay, move along. Nothing to see here.

I've played dozens of Tau games the last few years and vaguely wondered about this too but never got round to asking. That makes sense, not appropriate for Tau to be launching big assaults.
