Post subject:  Tau Army List v 6.32

Here is version 6.32 of the Tau army, any mistakes or typo's let me know.

Main Changes

1. AX-1-0 - Gained Seeker Missile, cost increased to 375pts.
2. Manta - Gained 2 x Seeker Missiles, cost increased to 675pts.
3. Pathfinders - Rail Rifles changed to AP5+ Sniper, formation cost increased to 200pts.
4. Drones - Upgrade is cheaper, formation is moved to upgrade for Tigersharks and cost is reduced to 100pts.
5. Tigersharks - Cost is reduced to 200pts.
6. Stealth - Formation cost reduced to 250pts.

Other Changes

1. Shas'o and Shas'el upgrade - Merged into a single Commander upgrade.
2. Stealth suits - First strike moved from weapon to notes.
3. Kroot Master Shaper - Loses macro weapon.
4. Kroot Hounds - Go to CC3+
5. Devilfish - Gun Drones added to Transport list.
6. Manta and Orca - Kroot Hounds added to Transport list.
7. Custodian Battleship - Tracer salvo goes to MW4+.
8. Crisis suits go to CC5+.

erm... i may have missed something but in wha situation can gun drones be transported in a devilfish?

There's no possibility for gun drones to take a devilfish as transport and the wording doesn't suggest that the gun drones can be transported for 'free'

Should the wording be more along the lines of Transport(2 Firewarrior or pathfinder units, may transport upto 1 unit of gundrones as well) or something similar?

Was the tigershark meant to gain seeker missiles as well, same as the AX?


Also, minor point, but something that's bugged me a little, but shouldn't Chris Reiter be in the 'And notable Developments by' Section of the first page since he was the first army champion ?

The devilfish transport capacity needs changing on the reference sheet as the gun drones part is missing

Other than that, it all looks good :)

Tigershark - didn't gain a seeker missile deliberately.

I added Gun Drones to the transport of Devilfish basically because they can be transported in the background, It indeed has no real effect on the Third Phase Expansion list (Clearly dropping Drones from Tigersharks was the In thing to do at this time ;)), but its always there if someone wants to do something in a varant list.

If thats the case I will add Chris Reiter to notable development.

Fair enough :D if it's not meant to be anything other than an aesthetic change, then that's fine :D

I'd still like to see the custodian dropped to 200 or even 150 points.

Its weapon is worse than the cruiser's weapon, and it can only come on in turn 3 to boot...

Well but Devilfishs CAN'T transport Gun Drones. Only Firewarriors and Pathfinders. But each Devilfish can transport TWO individual Gun Drones (half a stand) in addition to its basic transport capacity.
Same for the Piranha who also can transport 2 individual Gun Drones each.

so:
- Devilfish and Piranha should be able to transport one Gun Drone unit in addition to their standart transport capacity.
- with the Gun Drone upgrade the number of Gun Drone units can't exceed half the amount of Devilfishes/Piranhas in the formation.
- remove the "&Gund Drones" part from the Devilfish's/Piranha's Burst Canon.
- if you want to be really true to background then let transported Gun Drones be able to shoot.

Its just a bit too fiddly, this sort of stuff tends to be abstacted in epic as it is in this case - the two Drones are factored into the weapon stats.

Also I think if you check Devilfish can transport Drones as part of their 12 model limit as well as the two that can be taken as an upgrade.

Fire Warrior units have 2.5 (technically) carbines per 5 models, and gun drone units have 10 carbines per 5 models.

That really does sound like they should have 2x twin attacks... which'd certainly make them useful.

Yes - drone transport - quick fix tot he issue of drone upgrades being useless for mech firewarriors. Yes its abstract and yes it does the job! :)

Edit - well it doesn't actually. Any chance of making it 'and 1 gun drone' instead of a mix of two units as otherwise it again is fairly irrelevant? Currently gun drones only go with crisis as they stop foot FW garrisoning and stop mech FW moving!

It wouldn't just make them useful - but a bit too good, certainly too good for the current cost which would then require a points increase and that in turn would throw up its own problems.

I don't disagree that a points cost would be required.

But currently they've been highly marginalised, in part because they're of no real use to the Tau. Give them their "proper" stats and suddenly they're going to be useful. I'd be happy to put in some intensive gun drone testing if this stat change was enacted.

It's completely warranted though, even with a price bump and a return to being a normal buyable formation rather than an upgrade.
