Right, here is a 7 day vote so people can express their preference for Firewarrior FF value.

This isn't meant to help guide the development of any list or version of a list but I for one would like an answer to what players think they want.

To me, FF4+ makes Fire Warriors "Guardians with Armor". There's already so much similarity between Eldar and Tau that my army for both uses the same miniature pool*, that having them play stylistically similar is not something I would be at all interested in.

* Crisis Suits and Wraithguard = GZG Hound Dog, Broadsides and Wraithlord = DRM Verger, Fire Prisms and Rail HH = Eldar Deathstalker, the list is fairly extensive. This was mostly done because while I think FW do a great job capturing the look of the 40K Tau army. I just don't like the 40K Tau "anime" army.

Simply making Fire Warriors FF4+ would not be balanced.
I don't believe that anyone has said 'Give Fire Warriors FF4+ and the whole thing will be fine'.

There will be some who think that the present list is perfect and any changes would be pointless.
There will be some who think that they'd like to see Fire Warriors with FF4+ but they realise that other changes would also need to happen to keep playability and fluff factors in balance.
That kinda makes this poll a bit meaningless (sorry Mephiston). There are too many other factors that simply asking 'Fire Warriors FF4+ or FF5+' is too simplistic.

And there are others, like me, who are undecided now all this recent debate has flared. Sorry Meph, I can't answer this one - well yet anyway.

I agree that it is, unintentionally I'm sure, a bit of a loaded question simply because I don't think people want FF4, they want to try FF4....two completely different things.

I voted for FF4 simply because I'd like to see how it goes. If several experienced players are wanting to retry it, then there could possibly be something to it.

In any case, I'll eventually get around to trying both FF4 and FF5 myself....

I voted for FF5+. I use to be in the camp for better FF, but I realized that the faster we lock this list down, the faster we can try something that is better at FF, like Farsight Enclave.

The Farsight Enclave would be a very good way of justifying Fire Warriors with somewhat higher FF but less shooting capability.

Aye, but first, we have to get this list settled down and mostly finished. Then we can start pondering on what to change for variant lists.

I know its meaningless, never thought it would be anything but.

Eh it ain't meaningless for me, I'm all about democracy and stuff. If the people really did vote for 2 more years of playtesting then I'd back it...

Personally though, I'd really rather we settle the list based on the style we've been developing for the last 5 years, and then look to variants like the Farsight Enclave to give increased FF, etc.

This poll is not asking the community to vote for 2 more years of playtesting so that would not happen even if the FF4+ was more supported.

If anyone tries to claim that FF4+ is not a valid issue as a result of this poll then they are being fairly disingenuous.

FF5+ for me (sorry Onyx), but I have always felt Tau should shoot rather than assault. I do understand your position that FF is the equivlent of short ranged firing, but I agree with others that FF4+ would make their assault capabilities overpowered. This is purely a question of the way the game mechanics work unfortunately.

That said, I would recommend improving their short ranged firepower to give the effects you and others desire to make FW feared at 'point-blank' range (ie 15 cm)

FF4 is a massive change to the way the list works. To suggest that it wouldn't take years to work out the balance kinks considering the usual pace of progress on the Tau is disingenuous.

Currently the FF4 crowd is outnumbered 2:1. If that ratio stays then I'll be supporting FF5 (And also finishing the army list in the next few months).
