Ok so its now very evident the tau game is all about ML's. It seems to get the benefit 1/3 of your formations should be of this type and it helps that currently those ml formations are in and of themselves pretty damn good.

Now I can see it gives a distinctive play style but it also seems to limit it. Now its the Tau player eeking out his ml's to light up the enemy whilst not getting them all killed by the end of turn 2, while the benefit of killing said formations is very high before moving onto the rest.

Indeed initially I though it would be a gunline style play with suicide formations thrown forwards but actually it seems necessary to go with them to try and absorb some of the fire heading their way.

Now this isn't a complaint, its a distinctive style after all, however it does seem something of a shame that the multiple styles that were possible (ok, so not all were that good due to internal balance) have now become a subset of those 4-5 'lead' ml formations you will be relying on to give the rest of the army up to a 50% increase in firepower (for ay shots going from a 6 to hit to 5). Okay a tank army isn't that effected with single high to hit weapons, but you know it isn't optimal.

It would be interesting to try a moving mech horde as everything is pretty much 30cm range or less and fast and would decide things swiftly one way or the other :)

So what are others experiences with the new style and the resultant flexibility of list construction/feel.

I don't go separate ML formation crazy and I've won a fair few of my games so far (across all the E-series and 6.0 lists). Instead, I tend to spread them through my formations as best I can. I use 2 skyrays, a Stealth formation, a PF upgrade and a tetra formation. The Stealths don't usually appear till a later turn either (as a harassment/distraction formation) and often die because I put them in harms way - their ML is for themselves mostly.

MLs are definintely helpful, but they aren't always in place to be utilised(hence my argument for aircraft to avoid using GMs). I think the way you build your list (with what I call "fighting formations")and how you use it is more important than MLs alone.
