So what are the goals of this list?

So I'm having a little trouble interpreting your effort. You aren't supportive of the current version, so this your way of supporting the community?

I think Hena just wants Scorpionfish and Stingrays in a list.

Though I think it's in a bit in poor taste to release a variant list before the initial v6.x discussion is over.

I think if Hena wants to develop his own list, let him. It doesn't need to impact on Series 6 one bit. As long as he's not constantly requesting elements of his list to be diluted into 6.0 I think that would be fine. Most other Tau players will be using Series6 onwards, I would imagine, so Hena's list would only really be a fan list and there's plenty of those out there already (in other armies at least).

Hena, I think at minimum, you just need to give Series6 a game or two. Try and get past your need for a stingray. I loved my Stingrays too but the list doesn't really need it. HH-Ion cannons do AP at range perfectly well. So you don't get Ignore Cover on them - so You use a markerlight to gain a +1 to hit and it's all the same  :)

I wanted to create a variant list. Why is that a problem with Tau?

I think the problem "with Tau" here is your timing.

If v6.x had been set down for a 3 month testing period and was shown to work, then spin-off lists would be fine.  Trying to release a variant at, essentially, the same time as a new "main" version comes out is just asking for confusion and dilution of the development process.  And the situation is exacerbated by your previous posts "writing off" the v6.x series.

You don't see how releasing this now might be a bad/poor idea?

I would agree that with the very ambitious testing schedule Honda has set forth (just three months to *finish* the ERC Tau list) now is not the time to be writing variant lists.

Now is the time to band together behind Honda as Champion and test the hell out of his list.

Agree. I think anyone should feel free to design lists, play them, go crazy, have fun.

My comment was in regard to the intent. If Hena is unhappy with the current version of the list, no problem. If he wants to design his own list and play it. More power to him. If he wants to post battle reports using his list and commenters want to know what list he used, he has every right to state, "it is a list of my own that my group is play testing". All of that is great, as we have discovered, you never know where the next great idea will come from.

I don't want to assume intent, but by posting here, the message I am receiving is, "this is what I'm going to do".

Earlier, one of the community had been testing a version of the Tau that, although producing interesting results, was not in the general direction that we were moving the community list. They asked if it was Ok to post their test results, which I was fine with, but I was clear that we would not be taking the list in that direction. I respect that person for asking, not because it gave me authority, but because they were more concerned about the effect it would have on the overall effort. Quite in character, they were more concerned about the Greater Good.

Unfortunately, the Tau community hasn't been very united in it's efforts for quite awhile. There are strong opinions about what the list "ought" to look like...and there is nothing wrong with that. But there is also an unwillingness to yield on design issues in order to make progress. That has held the list back for many years. Those strong feelings tend to be more oriented on the individual than the whole.

However, this effort is not about any one individual. It's not about "my" list vs. "your" list. It is about a group effort to produce a product to benefit the community at large.

Branching off at this time, is premature and I'll just leave it at that.
