So most of the Tau range is apparently coming back, except for Hammerheads with variant turret options.

Only the Railgun Hammerhead will be returning to sale.

So, should the now-OOP variant turret options (Ion Cannon in the ERC list, plus the Fusion Cannon in my proposal list) be removed, or should they stay regardless?

I voted to remove them, because I'm very concerned about the approachability of the list for new players... let's see if I'm in a tiny minority here.  :)

I was very tempted to vote "I like to vote" but then I realized I'm much of an ambassador for this game here in Sweden, so perhaps a more sane and sober approach...  :sigh:

There's to many variants out there as it is. Of everything. One reason it seem hard to convert "old timers" to even try EA. (Another is they don't see the similarities, only differences. *bark bark vouff vouff*)

I propose to keep the list as is (eg. v5.1). No adding or removing until FW actually does something to Tau line.

For the purposes of this vote, assume the info I and Steve54 have been given is correct.

I believe it when I see it. Thus reacting to things now is premature at best. I voted null btw.

Okay but if the info Steve and I have been told is correct, what will you vote then, keep or drop.

I voted for keeping the OOPs. Not hard to guess my vote.

If people have invested cash in them already they should be able and allowed to use them in a tournament list. Folks in the future don't have to use them if they don't have them but they can make their own if they do - just as many of us have done with other things in the past. It's become part of the Epic system and it will be for years to come until SG ressurect the game. Screwing those who already have these models does more harm to the game than discouraging new players from picking it up IMO. Also, the lack of a defined thread where ALL up to date Epic lists, errata etc are listed is doing more harm than a couple of tank models in one of the lists.... People don't know where to look and it puts them off.

But this is an issue for the ERC....

I am new to even considering a Tau list and I am at two minds on this one.

I agree with E&C in respect of new players, yet I also understand about using minis that are no longer in print (as per the World Eater list).

My question is, do they exist as a unit in the Forgeworld books? If so, then why even discuss this? There are plenty of models that are not supplied by GW or FW for Epic.

The Fusion ones are a Forge World unit and not a big deal. The Ion Cannon Hammerhead should definitely stay though - is one of the two standard Hammerhead designs that have been available from day one for the tau in their 40k codex and the Hammerhead's plastic kit.

Not too bothered either way. Railguns will continue to be the weapon of choice for those who want to 'sit back and shoot', and the alternatives are less powerfull/usefull. Much depends on the tactics employed, as Jstr points out clumping formations together for mutual support against enemy assaults is a really powerfull tactic that then allows the Tau to maximise the use of its short-medium ranged weaponry - but that is another story.

Dobbsy makes a good point regarding proxies, but this really only applies to existing races (which usually only have a single variant in each type). The main issue for the Tau (and other races to a lesser extent) is the number of 'variants' available and just how the lists should be designed to cater for them. Their presence makes it that bit harder to fix the stats/costs for all the variants in an acceptable manner - witness the "Land Raider" debate.

Where manufactured models exist in large numbers (like here) it seems churlish to relegate them to the 'also-rans' section. We may just have to price for the most effective variant and then let the players make a 'free swap' choice or similar arrangement. However I would just drop any variants that require extensive modification or scratch-building unless there was a really convincing argument for their inclusion (like Drones which IMHO are intrinsic to the Tau army philosophies and make-up)

+1

I also agree with Dobbsy's signature - MW FF for Crisis Suits!

We still have Death Wheels and Assault Spawn don't we? Those aren't even mentioned in the current fluff! There is no reason to simply drop Ion Cannons. A huge amount of epic stuff isn't being produced, yet we still have it in our lists. And when was the last time Necrons were produced? Never? Then why do we still have a list for them? :p
